Received email from myself?

*I'm using a make believe email - [email protected] - to represent my actual email address.
-------------------------------------------------

This morning I received an email showing the sender as my own email address, with the subject line also being my own email address. There was no text or message inside the email, but there were 2 attachments, both with the same name and size.

[email protected].dat (3KB)
[email protected].dat (3KB)

I have not opened the attachments, and for that matter don't know what a .dat file is. Like everybody else I get strange email attachments occasionally, and I just delete them. What bothers me is that these appear to have been sent from my own email address, and that's not possible.

Does anybody have any ideas?

If you got email from youself, it means:
1. You really send emails to yourself :]
or..
2. Email address is faked. It's easy to fake any email address.

Sometimes I get emails from 'myself' too, and my anti-virus soft starts screaming.

Just delete that email..

I've received a few of these for each one of my Horde email accounts, every day for the past 3-4 days.

it's the reply-to email that is set to the same as the send to. this is mostly used when they use relaying over insecure amil servers. but be assured, it did not come from your own mail server / account

You're still sending yourself mail? :o

I just had a couple emails come in that showed they were from myself with the .dat attachments as well and have received them occasionally in the past. You're not the only one going nutty. :D

It's been happening to me alot on GMail; almost everyday. It goes to my Spam Folder, so it's not a huge annoyance :tu: .

Don't open the attachments (but I think you know better than to open them :D) - something is extremely fishy!!!

I haven't had any of those on gmail, but I did get one once on my account with my ISP
