Does anyone know if it's possible to get Godaddy's backorders cheaper than $18.95 from any of it's resellers? The resellers pay $12 for them, so it should be some place selling them cheaper than $18.95...

I'm planning to backorder a domain name that I want, but I don't think that many other people are interested in it... so that's why I'm gonna try with Godaddy's backorder...

i really don't suggest godaddy for backorders. They are poor at catching.

I've only ever had success at Pool, Snapnames, and Namewinner (this one a LONG time ago) ... in that order. Granted, I never had occassions for too many attempts at either GoDaddy, Enom Drop Club and the rest, but other members who have commented on the latter two didn't give me much promise on those, IMHO. It really depends on the domain name, and perceptions as well ... I realize. :gl:

I have at least one domain name now from each of the former services (two fairly recently) ... I could not live without these for a future development project, in my view. :lala:

All the best!

If you're trying to catch the top domains that drops I think it's better to use some backordering service like Pool, but since that not the case I think Godaddy can be a good alternative... if they catch it, great... if not, I'll live ;)

how does backordering work with godaddy? Say there are many users backordering one domain, who gets it first? Does it go in the order the people backordered or does everyone have an equal chance? Wondering whether or not to use Goddady for backordering. What makes Pool.com better?

Godaddy only allow one backorder per domain... so if you backorder it, nobody else will be able to backorder it through Godaddy. So if they manage to catch the domain it's yours for $18.95.
Pool got much bigger chance to catch the domain, but they have an auction on the domain when it's catched...starting from $60 (correct me if I'm wrong).

My second question is how does pool get that much bigger chance?

Pool got a lot more registrars that they're using while trying to register the dropped domain. So the chance that they'll catch the dropped domain is larger.

Actually many of the asumptions are quite the contrary. The workings of the drop market have changed considerably in the past few months.....Registrars and who they are partnered with are a huge factor in the game now...eg Netsol - Snapnames, Dotster - NameWinner and just recently.....Domain Alert - GD and WWD domains. :o

SO I am guessing that ExpireGuy is saying that it really does not depend on if a company has a lot more registrars it all depends on how big the company is? So chances are still equal that godaddy->Domain Alert will grab the expired domain as opposed to pool.com? There are many posts here that contradict each other :| Please correct me if I am wrong.

Not exactly, how many registrars a drop catcher has does increase chances of domain aquisition. However, some registrars have formed exclusive Alliances with certain backorder services eg. A netsol domain will be auctioned via snapnames exclusively if backordered through SN. A pool backorder for the same domain is redundant.

No. Pool has a larger registrar base, where GD only has 3 registrars in alignment, but GD domains and WWD domains are exclusive to Domain Alert.

The drop market changes constantly.

GD domains and WWD domains are exclusive to Domain Alert.

Just got "Capture unsuccessful" with Domain Alert for a domain registered at Godaddy that dropped today... I've had it backordered for a month or so....Seems like they're not exclusive for Domain Alert...

That's because the exclusive backorders only pertain to GD domains registered After Jan/05...not before
