With the change in Page Rank and penalties for selling back links, does that change the way SEO is done. I've looked at SEObook and SEOmoz and it seems that some of the methods mainly in developing backlinks has changed. If that is the case, is the SEO process evolving? If any one has any input on changes in the the standard philosophy of SEO it would be appreciated.

pagerank has never played a huge part in search engine optimization , although it is an indirect measure of quality backlinks to a website. i don't think that any google pr adjustments alone will have much of an effect on rankings, so this isn't fueling any evolution in the optimization process. if anything, the recent slaps put on place for pr manipulation will change the way advertisers purchase links (and it has already).

shockie is right about pagerank not a huge part in seo. but backlinks are still the main ranking factors for Google. The recent changes is just a part of pruning process so rankings can't be manipulated. And yes, it may seem to be evolving. This case has been so ever since SEO started.
