What are your opinions on CentralNIC?
They seem to be really doing well... Lately they added some new extentions to the portfolio that should launch them in the Arab and Indian market. They also released business data showing that their existing extentions are doing really well, apparently a fair part of the .EU buyers registered their same trademark name with .EU.COM as well, so when .EU was launched CentralNIC also saw a rise in the number of .EU.COM domains sold.
I don't know what to think of them.
Usually buying subdomains is dodgy, as lot of these subdomain providers go out of business rapidly or have crap support. But CentralNIC has been succesfully run for 10 years now without any big problems, so it seems they are as reliable and stable as registrars that sell 'real' ccTLD's. Given the fact that they are in the business for that time now, it's more or less safe to conclude that in terms of continuity they are as safe as a real TLD.
However, the prices still turn me off. I think they have some great extentions (mainly .UK.COM and .EU.COM as I live in the UK and EU myself) but it doesn't feel right that a subdomain costs more money than some actual proper TLD's. Even though centralNIC seems to be really well organised and reliable, it's still 'only' a subdomain and that should never cost more than a few euros a year I think.
