Online purchases show no sign of slowing down, and i don't just mean buying things on ebay!

I'm talking about the online consolidation going on all around us. Whether consolidation of domain names or consolidation of existing popular websites. Another billion dollar webdeal is detailed below, courtesy of cnn.com..................

Darn, i just started saving to take over CNET... LoL.
Anyway, good shopping for CBS, considering quality of domains that CNET has (tv.com, news.com, search.com etc.).

CBS buys CNet which includes tv.com

I don't know who he is but The Frager Factor (found on domaining.com) thinks this will be the nail in the coffin for .tv because of the possible sub domains.

I disagree. I think Competition is good.

What do you think?

discussing the whole shebang here:
http://www.namepros.com/industry-news/469604-cbs-acquires-cnet-1-8-billion.html

but to mention your point, no i definitely do not
for a number of factors

firstly, lets take .us for an example, IF .us was a popular extension, like .tv, (which it isn't) it still would be unaffected by the us.com subdomains, which are lame at best and no-one knows about

secondly, they own a shedload of amazing domains, tv.com is one, they may or may not do something with it. chances are they will just redirect

thirdly frager talks out the back end of his wig pretty much 24-7 :sold:

he's a gimp B-)

First off TV.com is a developed site I doubt CBS would be getting into the sub domain business.

Secondly CBS would be getting UDRP all day. Hi I would like the Subdomain HG my name is Hugh Garrett. HG.tv.com I think HGtv.com would halt that quickly. A lot of others would do the same exact thing IMO

Thirdly I agree with you 100 % Arnie

Thanks Predator,

I actually think any additional advertising for tv.com can only help the .tv extention.

possible

although, i'm not a fan of subdomains and also i am not a fan of wordtv.com either

i don't doubt they sell, as they do
i don't doubt people type them in either, as they do

i just personally think they're ugly bitches

word.tv is so clean and perfect, others are just poor competitors imo, having said that wordtv.com will get a better ranking and search result which is kind of grotesque, but just way it works, in general. i'm just generalising to make a point here, as obviously some well built .tv sites are doing great

much needs to be tinkered with, including adjusting pricing over at enom etc
i have only got 5 .tv domains, but very happy with them. i have no plans to ever buy a wordtv.com or tv subdomain

LLTV.com works well and is used lot by news agencies and channels etc though

haha...I couldn't care less if Fragor has 48,902,089 unique visitors to his site per month--HE IS WRONG. I SAID IT. Call him, Email him, IM him, Text him. He's wrong and so is AnYoNe else who says ridiculous comments following suit.

For years and years the "HUGE .COM owners/investors" have said, .com was first, it's the best, and nothing will ever change. WELL, sorry if I missed something, but since those "holy words" were spoken, we since have seen something quite different pan out. ccTLD's are growing by the second. Other countries do not always have the "I MUST have my .COM" mentality...

NOT TO MENTION, ".TV" HAS ALREADY BEEN ACCEPTED, and *now IS being invested in AND DEVELOPED by MAJOR MILLION and BILLION dollar companies. WHY? BECAUSE IT MAKES SENSE--a LOT of sense. Somebody please call Ustream.TV and let them know the Microsoft offer of $50 million was an April fools joke because NO WAY would they want a .TV...hmmm, I just found Microsoft.TV, and it's LIVE, interesting. Same goes for the investors of $4.6 million to Overlay.TV and Hearst Corps funding of FORA.TV for nearly $4 million recently. Hell, someone should also tell Boston.TV to turn down the millions in funding they are thinking about--because it will never work, right Frager? Nebraska.TV has more traffic than Nebraska.COM, ...what should we do?!? Tulsa.TV has more traffic than Tulsa.com. I'm getting nervous. Boston.TV inked a deal with Boston.COM and quite interesting enough--I PERSONALLY have had communication between NBC/ABC for one of my .TV Geo's. WAKE UP PEOPLE...or, don't and wake up in 5 years every morning and say, wow. I LET A BLOGGER influence my decision making. Interesting. (some people are leaders, some people NEVER will be)...your choice.

DOT COM will never, EVER go away, EVERYONE knows that, understands that, accepts that...and NOBODY has ANY problem with that. THE REALITY HOWEVER, is that times ARE IN FACT changing, *AS THEY ALWAYS DO*--and NEW DOORS/OPPORTUNITIES (tld)'s are unfolding...quite literally right before our eyes.

Believe what you may, but anything other than "acceptance" of the FACTS simply points to nothing short of PURE IGNORANCE...and is not only annoying but ridiculous.

...I might as well finish while my motor is running. *(Here goes my relationships--oh well) ...HAS ANYONE ON EARTH BESIDES ME questioned why the famed MONIKER.COM, SEDO.COM others that fail to have DOT TV on their homepage? That may have something to do the "slow" momentum...considering they ARE TRYING TO HIDE THE FACTS. They feel the loss in registrations/commissions on sales will be well worth losing if they continue to BASH and CONCEAL the FACTS which will hold ALL VALUES of DOT TV down. VERISIGN- ".TV is the fastest growing tld, ever". That must be a typo...Dnjournal.com...I'll hold my breath and choke on those comments. I'll just simply say, "DOES ANYONE BESIDES ME FEEL THAT IF SOMEONE BUYS A PREMIUM DOMAIN NAME--with an ANNUAL premium FEE, that it IS MORE THAN APPROPRIATE TO DISCLOSE THAT INFORMATION ON WHY AND HOW THEY ARE ALSO VALUABLE DOMAINS?!? I guess not. I WILL be bashed for "speaking up" but so did a LOT of others that ending up with the last laugh...

--Frager, I'll be waiting on your email.

umm... if us.com hasn't killed .us then why would tv.com kill .tv?

I think $1.8B for Cnet was a bargain personally. They own many of the top domain names possible, and have virtually wasted them for years. NEWS.com and TV.com alone will be worth a fortune to CBS.

download.com / upload.com
news.com
search.com
tv.com
mp3.com
chat.com
computers.com
help.com
shopper.com
radio.com
com.com
etc.
