Can someone explain to me why casino and poker domains are so popular?

When I browse through the sales on dnsaleprice.com, it seems that the terms "casino", "onlinecasino" (or any variation of), "poker" etc sell for good money in just about any old ccTLD, not matter how obscure.

Other than .com, prices seem to be pretty high in european tld's, especially .de.

I get that these terms have high CPC and search volume, but what is it about this niche that it can sell no matter what is right of the dot?

guess it is because casino and poker relates to very popular services with broad consumer-appeal that can be fully distributed online. its very much the same when it comes to games (pc games etc). Good domains that relate to certain forms of online games-services are in hot demand. Gaming has been one of the most popular activities since the computers early days

The casino.tld, sex.tld, poker.tld probably are speculative purchases by domainers. If you review the reported sales for the last few years, almost all are still parked, a few are 'developed' into light blogs, and the rest is affiliate redirects.

That is hardly surprising. Why would any self-respecting end user want to use an oddball ccTLD nobody could pinpoint on a map

I'm talking about the obscure ccTLDs à la .vg .gs etc.

Good keywords in major ccTLDs are worth money.

hi

from my perspective, such names are popular and remain in demand to some extent, because of the role they played as "revenue" producers.

before the crack down of online casino sites like pokerstars and including the "re-structing" (reductions) of ppc payouts...casino/poker names paid nice money.

there is also the hope that online gambling will be revived, so some are positioning themselves in anticipation by speculating that market.

imo...

Thanks for all the replies.
I did visit some of the domains that had been sold and notice a lot of them were parked.

What happened with the "crack down" on casino sites and when did this happen?

I was just so perplexed looking at the sales. On dnsaleprice there are 10 pages of long names, obscure tld's, hyphens etc just when you search for term "casino". And over 90% of them sold for more than $1000.

3 of the top 5 sales are .de. Is there any reason for german domains being popular with gambling?

.de is the largest ccTLD (15M regs) so there is a healthy aftermarket in .de in general, not just for gambling domains.

I knew that.. I just thought maybe there was more to it. The sales of english words in .de extension has always been strange to me.

A few years back, my poker domains regularly made between $4 and $15 per click. Perhaps people are hoping for the good ol' days to come back?
