.mobi Capitulation?

I think some people have started to give up on the mobi extension based on some "portfolio" sales.

For whatever reasons that are named in these portfolio sales, I can't help to think that it's a classic sign of capitulation in the mobi speculation market.

But before you get trampled in the "tulip bulb mania" exit, I would like to recommend the following:

1. DO NOT BE A lemming and start dumping names; get away from the herd mentality!

2. STOP registering ridiculous/stupid names. A quick way to double check is to look up COM, NET and ORG names to see if they have been developed (not parked).

3. TAKE A LOOK at your portfolio and select a handful of names that you are willing to pay renewals for next 3-5 years and possibly develop them

4. FOR VALUABLE NAMES that are not on the #3 list, start formulating sale prices that you are willing to accept to remove from your portfolio. Use Estibot or appraisals or something. Just don't be greedy. Remember, for you to sell your unwanted name means someone else has to see the value for him/her to take investment risk; conduct auctions with few names at a time

5. FOR CRAPPY NAMES (that you have honestly evaluated as such), list them on Sedo or some place but don't count on selling them.

You have a persistent nay sayer in the mobi forum as well as people who constantly hype the extension. Stop listening and start thinking for yourself.

Please don't take my comments as being condescending; I've made some stupid mistakes myself. As the saying goes, "there is nothing you can do about the spilled milk". My only goal was to help at least 1 person.

I still firmly believe that you can make money in the mobi market.

:)

It is true about large internet players, medium internet players, and small internet players. The vast majority are not using .mobi for their mobile sites. Wrong or right is simply decided by what is most popular, over the last 18 months a clear trend towards subdomains for mobile sites has emerged.

actually, by far the vast majority don't even have a mobile site designated, pretty much only the biggest of biggies or those technically oriented. none of the smaller local sites i frequent have taken this step yet, when they do they may choose .mobi or /mobile or a blind redirect, whatever, but only time will tell.

Yes true, I was simply commenting on the ones who are setting up mobile sites.

The vast majority of businesses before .com emerged didn't and weren't using websites for their business and most preferred to stick with what they knew, so your making a pointless and useless argument. Instead of posting your comments to us, you really should speak to the marketing department for BMW, and tell them, like your telling us, how .mobi isn't being used by the,

Unfortunately BMW isn't exactly an internet powerhouse, to put it in perspective the alexa rank of bmw.com is 11,850. For every BMW there is 100 other companies who are using subdomains for their mobile site.

Marc Milau represented one of the โ€œbig spendersโ€, Germanyโ€™s BMW Group, at Barcelonaโ€™s Mobile World Congress...

...He told the crowd that BMW.mobi has 30 million views in one year without doing nothing...

Also, elsewhere its been reported that Bank of America's BofA.mobi got 500,000 visits in its FIRST month after launch...

...mobi potential already looks pretty promising to me, snoop....and it ain't hardly started yet.

I certainly don't have anything against companies or internet entities both large and small that wish to use m.domain.com because it's not at all worrysome. The same holds true with .com in regards to .net domains,....no worries.

Companies that your speaking of today (Internet Powerhouses) weren't even formed yet,
until the internet and the .com namespace had well established itself.

Mobile will be no different with the exception of the fact that it will occur at a much faster rate than people may realize, meaning the Mobile Web will be well established in possibly half the time or less than the World Wide Web took to establish itself and make .com the household name that it is today for the PC.

.mobi will go on and absolutely Rule with Utter Ease (Once Well Established) The Mobile Namespace regardless of whether Google or any other Large Internet Powerhouses are on board at the moment through their current usage of the .mobi namespace or not.

So it's a Moot Point you have their Snoop.

Dangerous when you can't even see the downside, good luck.

The only downside that I see is that there may be multiple avenues to utilize the mobile web...if you want to call that a downside. Mobi is and will continue to grow as one of those avenues.

BTW, priceline.com made an announcement yesterday that they have launched PRICELINE.MOBI. I guess they are just another victim of the mobi hype :hehe:

Outside the domains industry, most people dont look for .mobi. They go for .com first.

For example, people go to chase.com first before they would go to chase.mobi.

.mobi sales are not what you expect right now, because its just too early. Most people dont know about .mobi. It will probably take 3-5 years. To me .mobi will be for the younger generation.

Things can change in a heartbeat. In 2 or 3 years we might be saying how people think of mobi first and .com...what's that?

The younger generation is exactly who will make the mobile web. After all they are the future. If they grow up knowing .mobi and always surfing via mobiles, .com may be an after thought. It's not too farfetched.
