Rick Schwartz sold Candy.com for 3,000,000 dollars D-:to the Melville Candy Company of Massachusetts.

Personally, I think this domain could have sold for a little more, but that's my opinion.

Any more updates from DNround table 2009 sales?

I agree, that profit-sharing part of the deal was very smart...

Yeah, this deal is old news. Still it gives hope to my Candy.us

I would be satisfied with a very small percentage of the .COM sale.

toys.com fetched $5mil a few months back, right? I think this should have netted at least $4mil. $xxx, xxx would be an inssult, even $999,999. :p

Exactly, my point! The way it was described by Rick in his blog, I think his starting wit $3.5 mil for this domain was a mistake and he could have fetched bit more if he had a higher asking price as the company seemed quite sterned about getting their hands on this lil' gem no matter what the price was.. but then again that's just my humble opinion!!

atlast it's :sold:

I think Toys is a stronger keyword than Candy, and the difference in price was justified.

A lot more people buy Toys online than Candy.

Brad, I think that's an arguable topic.. both are strong keywords in their own industry and definitely SUPER premium!!

Without a doubt - Candy is not in the same class as Toys. Primarily because of the way the keyword is shopped. Consumers dont buy much "Candy" online compared to "Toys". "Chocolates" is the primary keyword for candy that is sold online. If we were comparing Chocolates.com to Toys.com I could see that - I cannot see Candy.com to Toys.com.

Spade, good point to bring into the discussion, hwoever I was looking at the comparative wordtracker searches for all the 3 keywords and this is how they all fair at the the wordtrackers keyword tool with other possible search phrases clubbed together..

1. Toys - 53,677 searches
2. Candy - 39,186 searches
3. Chocolates (no where even close to above 2) - 1,576 searches

However, if we were to see just THE keyword daily search, Candy is placed at the top with 6195 searches where as toys is only at 2935 searches.

Still believe, Candy deserves more then what it went for ;)

I think 3 mill was a really good sell for candy. I'm amazed he tacked on profit share to that as well.

We all go on about how this domain or that domain should have got more but I bet if you were approached with an offer like that..Well the answer is obvious:hehe:

The issue with candy.com is as it's been said above: ppl buy more toys ONLINE than candy. But candy is bought MORE than toys. Although a potntial http://www.toys.com might have more chances at profitability (seeing as toys cost more than candy), the sheer volume of candy puchased daily should be taken into consideration). And sure, ppl don't buy much candy online but -- so? Where is the point? Just becauise I read about a really cool DVD online doesn't mean I plam to buy it online. I love candy lol I do. It's a strange habit. But anyway, I love trying new candies and would be interested in reading about new brands or types or variations. And I'm not alone in that. So a www.candy.com could be very benefitial. Vibrators.com netted a mllion awhile back and it's very limited (sex toys or things that vibrate) but it's a huge market and surely $1mil was a steal. I see $3mil for candy.com as a steal, too.
