Hello Namepros people. I have just registered my first domain name and would very much appreciate some opinions about it. I know very little about the domain name business and this first registration has cost me the princely sum of 7 USD - so I need to make some money quick !

The name I have registered, as you may have guessed, is

canadawet.com

- I like it because it brings up images of wet canadians and also because it is an easy to remember .com which I was surporised to find had not already been registered and of course it is an oblique reference to canadadry. Also I will be using it as a first go to try and learn the ins and outs of some aspects of this business, to test the water so to speak. Your opinions would be most welcome, do you think it has potential for a resale, I know nothing about website creation and do not intend making a website with the name canadawet.com - but somebody else with a sense of humour might want to.

I would also like to part it somewhere, suggestions for this would also be much appreciated.

Thanks.

You aren't going to make any money from this domain quickly. Especially if you are not going to develop it.

I meant 'park' not 'part'

I meant to say 'park' not 'part', but I can't see any way of editing my post.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice Tom and Shockie. I am still blindly optimistic so I see big Canadian bucks coming my way !

The EDIT advice is no doubt excellent but unfotunately I can't see any 'EDIT' upon which to click.

the "edit" button is beside the "quote" button on the bottom right of your posts... can you find your posts?

It was the cookies

Thanks Shockie. The Edit button wasn't there, strangely because I had my cookies set to block everything. When I set the cookies to accept everything the Edit button mysteriously appears !

I have now 'parked' my domain with Namedrive www.canadawet.com but if I visit the page it looks like half the links lead nowhere - is this normal ?

I can't see the name ever being used for a website, but I very well could be wrong.

Good luck with it.

You may be right Devon. I am using it to try and learn the basic mechanics of the DN business. But with a bit of luck it might interest a Canadian porn operator. Now I need to figure out how to get Google to find it. :(

Well canadawet.com has had a few hits, but I guess that may be me clicking on stuff to try and figure out what's going on. It's parked at namedrive, I've parked a second one at Sedo www.swiving.com to see what the difference between the two is. As far as I can see Namedrive seems to be more geared towards adverts and clicks, by making the pages more appealing; Sedo is just a list which looks pretty uninteresting and they seem to be more geared towards selling domains than encouraging clicks. But WTFDIK!

ok first of all, do not visit your parked sites that much (or at all), and never ever click on any of the links. you can preview what the site looks like at namedrive using the magnifying glass preview option.

as with parking two separate domains to test parking companies, you should keep in mind that the domains themselves play a part in the traffic and clickthroughs. nonetheless, i dont see either domain making much by parking. 0 ovt for "swiving" and 29 for "wet canada"...

after about a month you should really consider developing imho.

Thanks Shockie. Unfortunately I've already clicked on some stuff on my sites, basically to see if the clicks work (some of them do some of them don't) - am I gonna get into trouble? I didn't see anywhere in their FAQs that it says 'don't click on yr links!'.

Swiving is an olde English word for you know what. It may see a revivial in popularity because it has just been mentioned in UK newspapers -nobody (except academics) knew what it meant, but apparently King Charles I did a fair amount of swiving with his mistresses and this has just come to light in letters he wrote, which have been published in the ladt few days. So swiving may see a revival and someone may want to create a site.

not sure if you're going to get in trouble... i think it would be common sense that you arent allowed to click on your own links...

Maybe not the FAQ, but probably the TOS. But isn't that just common sense? Otherwise everybody would just click on their own ads all day, become rich, while the advertisers go out of business.

As for the apprasial - reg fee.

Yup you're both right it is common sense, but I wanted to see if the clicks actually took you anywhere and was surprised when quite a few of them just seem to be dead links, but it may be something with my browser, the advertisers sites do actually exist but sometimes when I clicked on stuff it just gave me an error message (not always though) anyway I've stopped clicking now. I would have thought as well that they would have some system to display a message when you click on your own links to tell you to cut it out, or at least to have the sense not to count it in your statistics.

All fascinating stuff neverthless.

I cant see the domain as having much value myself... its not a very descriptive name more so just 2 words stuck together.

You can change the look of your parked pages at sedo to help get more clicks, click " domain parking " on the left then " Optimization "

The name is going to get you anything big that you are hoping but you might make some bucks off parking clicks if you promote the site like you are doing now!!!

Develop a website on this domain to see any real profit materialising
