Capital Region Housing (CRH) announced it is changing its name, branding and logo to Civida, effective today.

The name change signals a new era in providing affordable housing to families. Civida will have a new tagline, Life Starts With A Home, while the organization’s mission, values and guiding principles will remain the same as they were under CRH.

“Our new brand signifies a bold new direction for our organization,” says Greg Dewling, CEO, Civida. “We’ve had many names over our 50-year history and this was the right time to refresh our brand and tell the world we’re ready to move in a new direction.”

    CRHC.ca > Civida.ca

Just to make sure realize, this is a housing support organization in the capital region (Edmonton) of one province (Alberta), not a national organization.

The article explains the name this way "Civida (pronounced Si-VEE-duh) is part Latin, part Spanish origin. Civitas or “community” in Latin and vida, or “life” in Spanish, make up the new name."

The .ca choice is obvious for most Canadian small businesses or organizations.

Not necessarily a bad thing if you're B2C, as studies show Canadian consumers trust/encourage .ca when shopping: "According to the findings of the survey, an astounding 60.24% of respondents selected .ca as the domain extension that they trusted most on a Canadian company's website."

This also means that if the dot com is listed too expensively for a one-word name that you really like, but the dot ca is available, the dot ca purchase might still be a legit decision if your business is Canada-oriented. From there, snatch up the dot co (.co) if you can, that way you'll have a TLD to let your business work internationally at its expands.
