I've got a domain at hexonet that they grabbed when I bo'd it through them.

Id agreed to sell the domain so was attempting to transfer the domain to buyers register but got a message saying it couldn't be transferred out.

Anyone else had problems trying to transfer premiums out of hexonet??

I have contacted their support but thought I may get quicker answer on here.

Cheers,
Ronnie

Is the domain unlocked? How long ago did you acquire it?

You need to wait at least 60 days to transfer out to another registrar. (for .com.)

Other extensions like cctld's may have different waiting periods.

If this is the case, then the buyer may need to accept a push or account change at the existing registrar and wait before transferring out.

Ronnie,
My understanding is if it was a legacy premium that dropped and they obtained it, you will not be able to transfer it to another registrar. Has to stay where it is.

Thanks,
A

oops sorry, missed that this was the .tv section.

Try asking Hexonet for a definitive answer just to be sure.

Cheers.
Didn't realize the legacy system still applied when using hexonet.

Thanks everyone for your help.

This legacy premium non-transfer rule serves what purpose for the ultimate user who intends to develop the domain into a video-oriented web portal?

Things like this make .tv a pain to be involved in.

I emailed buyer to tell them about the rule and advise them to get a hexonet account and the reply saying:

"We believe that there is a way around this after talking to Hexonet and
Tucows

The domains are classified as Premium by Verisign - the .tv registrar, but
we are going to request that this status be removed and attempt the transfer
again"

I image person advising them at hexonet doesn't do much in .tv but time will tell how it turns out.

Its never easy!

Ronnie,
Did the buyer already fund the deal? Typically out of respect of your time, I discuss the premium Verisign .tv policy post funding because it then keeps all parties attached to closing the deal.

Let us know how it all works out.

Yeah they have paid & things are very relaxed so the time delays due to this issue are not really that big a problem for now.

I really should of brought up the premium status issue before hand but I completely forgot about it with the name not being at enom.
Buyer does know all about premium status and .TV's rules as they own one of better .TV's out there, think fact they know .tv has some unusual rules is helping not scare them away.

Buyer does not want to have domain at hexonet so asked to cancel deal.
They had already paid but i'll give them refund no problem as i don't feel it was their fault, i should of informed them about premium rules at negotiations stage.

Sometimes .tv can really be a frustrating extension to deal in.

Even hexonet don't know the .tv rules so gave buyer poor advice and helped waste more time.

Not to worry, onwards and upwards

Ronnie,
Wow! Cancelled a deal due to the registrar! What about the registrar did they not like?

Security?
Renewals?
Interface?

That is not uncommon Ammar in my experience, I have had a few and was brokering a few, where someone would not do a deal if the domain could not be transferred. Included name.com, dynadot and enom as undesirable in the transactions.

Sorry to hear Ronnie, hope you sell it for more down the road.

Leonard to answer your point, Why can't they be transferred ? I spoke to Verisign directly over a year and a half ago. They said it is done for the registrar who sold the name, that they keep getting the renewal income. That is why, its not a techie type thing, but just a way of thanking the registrar who originally sold the premium .tv.

Not exactly sure what the issue was.
They had spoken earlier about how they had been trying to move all the domains they control to the one registrar over recent years to make it easier for them to manage.

They had a registrar they prefer & were not prepared to change things for one domain.

Premium .tv can not be transferred out of their first registrar
even if it is a legacy (ENOM only with non regular fee), or with normal fee if registered after 18-3-2010
The lock though is not at registrar level but at registry level, error message for transfer is coming from Registry.
Currently most non legacy prems are registered at name.com and their subregistrars and some are
at Hexonet and Dynadot. Very few at some other registrars. Can not find a reason why to not keep a premium .tv at hexonet, their renewal is the cheapest right now and it takes less than a minute to open an account.

But of course it is another barrier at .tv sales as people are confused and many want to use
1-2 registrars only with usually godaddy to be the one (does not support prem .tv at all)

That was the reason they cancelled.
They moved all there names recently to one registrar to make it easier to manage & didn't think it was worth making an exception for this name.

Premium .TVs can not be transferred

See: Verisign .TV DOMAIN NAMES REGISTRATION POLICIES

"Registrar Transfers for Premium Names are prohibited."

I have a $15k .tv sale on a premium .tv that is at enom. Naturally the buyers are thoroughly confused now as to why they can't transfer the domain to another registrar. Normally I send buyers that question this to the Versign link posted above that explains Verisign's Policy on premium transfer restrictions but that page no longer exists?

I called and questioned them about it and they said the page was taken down and won't be put back up? I asked if there was anywhere on their site that explained the policy now and they said no???

I really hope this deal does not go south because of this restriction...

The way I typically handle this type of situation is telling the buyer that due to the premium quality of the name, Verisign has made it their corporate policy to have names at the same registrar. Create a free account at the registrar and we can push it. Nameservers can be changed as well.

Just something I have used with success. Good luck.

Thanks,
A

Thanks for that Ammudamus, I have said stuff very similar lol, but it was nice when I could also send them to an official page that explained the policy so they don't just think I am making this stuff up.

Anyway it's all good, name pushed and I think everybody is happy. I will post it when the escrow gets all finished up...

---------- Post added at 02:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:42 PM ----------

Actually it's not completely done yet lol. I pushed the name into DomainNameSales.com escrow account at Enom, not the buyer's, I explained all this to the broker and of course it just sounded crazy to them also, I wanted to send them to the Verisign page that explains this but it is not up anymore? Why ever that is makes absolutely no sense to me, if you are going to have confusing exclusive policies that nobody has heard of before why not have a page to explain things.

So I called Verisign and had them send me an official email that explained the no transfer policy and I forwarded it to my broker at DNS so they have a better understanding of what is going on because now they said they have to try and convince the buyer of all this craziness.
