Can you develop a site just with RSS feeds?

After doing a bit of reading on here I started using GKT to look for search volumes in areas where I have an interest. I found one that looked to me to have a decent volume of exact matches and went ahead and registered it.

Whilst I'm very new to domains, it seems to me that the best way to develop the site and provide relevant content would just be to offer RSS feeds. The RSS would have to be filtered for my niche only though.

Firstly, I'm keen to know if it's possible, and secondly, is this a viable way to develop the domain? I've basically no idea how SEO etc. works and don't know if providing only RSS feeds would offer any value to the site in terms of PR, SE etc.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

RSS feeds can be a good source of content, but since the fees are content that is already published in other places, your content may be not seen as "unique" and the advantage you get fairly small.

The best type of content you provide will depend on the type of site you have. For someone starting out, I suggest a blog that is personal in nature. Having a personal blog will force you to write and improve your writing skills. It also allows you to write about what you are interested in and share with others what you know about a topic as well as other resources you have found. A site like this is going to be much more "work" but the results you get should also be much greater than just recycling someone else's content. And if your blog is good, you may find others using YOUR RSS feed for content on THEIR sites. :)

I suggest that you learn about basic SEO and this will give you much of the basic information on how to get traffic to a site. SEO is not hard and you are already doing keyword research, which is about 50% of SEO in my opinion. There are many sources to learn about SEO, but don't just stop with one source. Most sites that provide information on SEO only use the opinion of one or two people. Reading more sources will give you more opinions and let see what peope agree on or disagree on as the best and true nature of SEO.

Thank you for your replies recently. It's greatly appreciated.

The site I was talking about is liverpooltransferrumours.com. It has 33k exact matches per month, so I thought there might have been something in getting some RSS feeds about Liverpool FC on there and getting revenue from gambling affiliates.

The blog is actually a good idea and something I've been thinking about doing. Most of my interests/knowledge is in sports and betting, so I am hoping that I can gain some sort of edge from that. Instincts tell me that gambling content would be among the more profitable in domaining?

Will definitely follow your advice on SEO too. It's all a learning process right now.

Cheers again.

Once you start talking about developing a site, domaining really doesn't play much of a part unless you have a really great name that peope type in. I can make a site than yours with any bad domain that will do better than yours if my content and SEO is better.

I'm a bad affiliate marketer and rely on AdSense, but for gambling that may not work well. I would try to find an ad network that has gambling ads and start with those, then add affiliate offers as you find good ones. I think it will work better if you don't have too many affiliate offers and work hard to promote each one. I never did that. Visit some affiliate forums or web sites and you will get good information from people that have learned how to make it work.

Yes, if you are interested in the topic a blog should work well. Try to post once a day if you can, even a short post. Posting via email makes this easier so make sure you have a blog that supports it, most do. And add one or more RSS feeds either to your home page or a page just for feeds. Lastly, don't be stingy with your links to other sites. If you find good resources, link to them and people will thank you. :)

Good Luck!

I believe you are talking about doinsg something like auto-blogging using RSS feeds from other sources. This is done by lots of people and is a good easy way to get content on a site. Search for autoblogging and you will find ways of doing this.

By experimenting with my site, I have discovered the following:

1) Google hates RSS feeds as the primary content for a page. So you can write off any Google traffic if you go this route as the means for providing primary content for your site. However, it is fine as side information either in a widget or in a subdirectory/subdomain.

2) Google places lots of emphasis on the age of the domain name as well as the domain name itself and the conformance of the name to the primary content of the site.

3) Google also values the amount of traffic, the amount of time the visitors stay on the site and the authority of the sites that refer traffic to you.

Starting from scratch is difficult, but if you develop a loyal following (by whatever means you deploy), it can work out nicely. Be aware that Google Adsense is providing paltry money for clicks nowadays (as it stuffs its own coffers, so Adsense is not an avenue you should even care about.

Hope this helps,

Rich
