Buying .Net's'

Hi everybody,

I have several names for appraisal but recently have been looking for .Net names overlooked by companies.
eg www.virginonline.com tried www.virginonline.net and it wasn't registerd? There are several others that I have found but don't have the cash to register. Is it worth regestering the .Net names or am I wasting my time?
Also has anybody had any experience with registering names that companies are using? I've checked several trademark companies and none of the names are registerd so assume I'm free to register them.
Are names worth more or less if already registerd to a large company?

Many thanks 1fix

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Trademark Free, domain names have a better chance of reselling.

The .net tld's IMO are not hot sellers at the moment. from what i have seen, after .com tld's, the .org extension is doing well.

if you plan on pursuing .net, then it would be wise to select more specific categories of names. Preferably one-word .nets or select two-worders.

here are some examples of .net domains I have sold.......

computerprinter.net
skipants.net
careeropportunity.net
sexoral.net
blacklesbians.net
webpagedesigning.net

hope that helps!

good luck

Agree with Biggie, on both aspects. Stay away from TM'd names, and be highly selective with the .NET's! ISP's/Hosting companies, even E-mail are typically good for this extension, even in resale.
One-worders are good, depending on the search count. :)
PS. Do NOT register VirginOnline.net, IMHO (TM issue).
Best of Luck.

As everybody said:
STAY AWAY FROM TM !!!! :D
Anyway, found that funny but a new business is born here in Europa.... the .de extension. (Of course exclusivly for German sites) but if you are looking closer you will see that this extension come just after the .com .
Anything more to say about this extension.
You need to resale them quickly because in 2004 come the .eu extension for european country. JMHO, but can change the rules for all the country dot.
At last, as CH said, NET are exellent for webbased email services, webhost and anll the networks related companies (Even Handies, phones, ISP....)
Good luck.
