Buying a .com domain of an already existing .net domain for landing is illegal?

Let's say someone have an domain under .net (let's call it for example timmy.net), then someone buy the timmy.com and fill it with ads and affiliated links.

Considering that "timmy" is not a trademark nor a real name (maybe a nickname), buying the .com for this purpose is illegal?

well your intentions are purely sqautting, in this instance it may not be illegal but squatting none the less,

this comes down to your own morals, you want to make money off someone elses work, my opinion on it is dont do it, however, all said and done, its only a website, its only money right??

think about the other guy for a second, lets say you reg a name, and i take the other extension and rape all your traffic, how would you feel??

Ultimately, it comes down to 1- if Timmy of Timmy.net is being used as a TM or could be concidered a TM in a certain catagory (Timmaaaaaay) 2- usage of timmy.com. in relation to Timmy.net if Timmy.net has some sort of TM.

As an example, if my last name is Ford and I sold cars and create a website called fordcarscom, I could be in trouble since there is another famous Ford out there in the field. Though names are tough to challenge, it can still happen. It could be a case of deep pockets trying to financially strangle another.

The timmy is just an example of the owner's nickname, but i got the point of honnest

And by the way, it's not me that are going to buy it, it happens to one of my friends I was thinking if there are a way to domain dispute or something, but as long as i know no, cause it's not a trademark/real name.

Ugh, I remember doing this yesterday and took me a while since I had custmers in and out all day. I didn't finsish my PS, it should have said:

I reread it and it seemed odd, even for me.

But do be carefull of what you think is not a TM as Sever mentioned. Take nothing for granted.
