BuyDomains.com - One of a kind?

Hello everyone,

Been browsing the forums for over a month now, and during the same time I've sold a couple of names to buydomains.com.

Yeah I've heard so much about them making lowball offers and all, but hey you have to admit that they actually DO buy quite an impressive amount of domains. And they DO pay.

Now I *know* this forum might be *great* to sell domains, but it's a large place and 99% of the people are resellers, who are also trying to sell domains and there are few buyers who are willing to pay anything (not even reseller price) on average domains without traffic. You might say its akin to eskimos trying to sell snow to each other in the south pole.

Well I digress, my point here isn't to ask about the quality of the domains I have or anything, I'm just looking to expand my scope.

As of now, it seems like the only company which actively buys AVERAGE domains (albeit at low prices) is buydomains.com. They seem to be one of a kind, and no matter how I've searched I've never come across any other company like them who actively buy domains the way buydomains does. I'm not looking for a forum, marketplace or broker, i'm looking for a company who simply buys domains to resell them at a large profit, the way buydomain does.

So, does anyone here know of any companies/corporations/organizations similar to buydomains? It doesn't have to be end user prices, I'm talking reseller prices (like below $100 on anything).

Any information GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance to the post below this one (if there is one, which i hope there is ) :hehe:

Digipawn.com, try them. Plus there are many other people/companies that buy domains. I will look for them right now.

Right, BuyDomains.com buy domains for a low price and that's why I stopped submitting my domains to them. I believe it's better to keep a good domain rather than selling it for a low price.

I managed to sell one of my domains and make a profit of 1890 USD in 2 weeks only through DomainNameBuyers.com - Try them only if you have good domains.

Ross,

It doesn't seem that Digipawn.com buy domains! Have you ever managed to sell a domain to them?

That's what they are, a pawn shop for domains. Of course they buy them. I know there are more places that buy domains i just can not find the websites for them. Most places will turn down most domains, the domains have to be of some quality and desire for the company or person buying them. As in most cases, duh.

DigiPawn.com loans money using your domains as collateral. They don't actually buy the domains.

I see the link but I've never heard of anyone selling domain(s) to digipawn.com. It's possible that they've bought a few but they're not bulk buyers like NameMedia. I've got a list of websites/companies that claim to buy domains but most of them never reply, even on quality generics. I'm not sure why they even bother asking for them.

To be honest i get the same reply from most of those websites/companies. BuyDomains.com is the only consistent one that i have sold to in the past. I think those websites/companies go stagnant after a while or just simply run out of funds. I don't know but i will keep an eye out for them and report them here when i see them.

Wow, thanks for the replies...

So if anyone has a list of such companies, please post it here so we can all share the information :)

I'm surprised, though, that this question has never been raised before... I've searched through google and namepros archives and couldn't find any post asking this before.

btw, did you manage to "pawn" any domains using digipawn? Do they have any particular spoken (or unspoken) requirements?

thanks

Hmm...

Quality is somewhat relative though. Do you have any examples of domains you have previously pawned successfully? (That is, If you want to and you're allowed to list them here, i don't think that's against TOS).

No, it's not. Would you lend someone money if they were putting up just a really pretty (subjective), rhinestone bracelet as collateral? Probably not.

What about a bracelet with real diamonds and emeralds? No matter how ugly you thought the bracelet was - at least you'd know it was worth something. A pretty rhinestone bracelet is just a guess...a speculative hope that someone will eventually come along and buy it.

I agree with SirDeNovo.

Domain values are subjective. Quality for you would mean nothing to me :)

A domain you would buy for $1000 I might not give $1 for :) and vice versa.

You cant compare diamonds, where one of the factors to determine the value are what carat it has (something measurable, same all over the world), with domains which have value of what the buyer thinks its worth (not measurable, different from buyer to buyer).

Just my humble opinion or imho :)

Nice argument guys.

Let me give you a real example that happened with me. I bought lots of domain names; the ones I expected to sell are still there unsold, and the ones I never expected to sell has sold for a very good amount of money.

I remember this domain that I never expected to sell; I sold it for almost $2,000 only after 2 weeks from registering it :)

Quality?! I don't want to give my opinion here coz I'm still confused about it. I see domains on Sedo that sells for huge amount but I personally don't find them quality domains.

can someone that sold a name to buydomains.com tell us the domain name and the price they payed

I think it would be pretty interesting to know who all would buy like this. If you submitted a name and they were interested and made you an offer then that gives you something to go on as far as price goes. And if someone has a name out there they paid 699 to register and they offered $20.00 then you have more to put toward a couple more domains. I mean yeah I can see where it could be a waste and all but there could be a small advantage if played right.

My 2 cents worth.

Yes...this holds true in the bigger picture. But I was commenting in regards to the pawning/collateral scenario. Thus, only those domain holders with unanimously valuable domains (like one-word premium generics) would be able to borrow money...if Rick actually cares to get that money back.
