President George W. Bush said today that he understands and respects the views of those who are calling for him to cut short his summer vacation, but warned that an immediate withdrawal from Crawford, Texas would "send a terrible signal to the enemy."

"The enemy would like nothing better than to see me cut short my vacation and get back to the White House," Mr. Bush told reporters. "They hate my freedom."

While the president said that he would withdraw from Crawford "soon," he refused to set a timetable for his departure from the ranch, saying that much work there still needs to be done.

President George W. Bush said today that he understands and respects the views of those who are calling for him to cut short his summer vacation, but warned that an immediate withdrawal from Crawford, Texas would "send a terrible signal to the enemy."

Two fair points he made (Did I just say Bush said something possibly right for a change? Da*n, I need a drink :D).

1) he understands and respects the views of those who are calling for him to cut short his summer vacation - He should, they pay his salary

2) ...that an immediate withdrawal from Crawford, Texas would "send a terrible signal to the enemy."
"The enemy would like nothing better than to see me cut short my vacation and get back to the White House," Mr. Bush told reporters. "They hate my freedom."
- Very true, and a reason that would be hard to argue against, atleast IMHO. Show them they do not dictate how we as Americans, or or president, spend our time. Do what we want to do, despite them.

While the president said that he would withdraw from Crawford "soon," he refused to set a timetable for his departure from the ranch, saying that much work there still needs to be done.
Those that read that article would laugh at his reasoning ("work") he gave, however. I can, on the flip-side of the anti-enemy argument, understand being angry over this one. I don't pay him to take off an entire month vacation (I can't just do that), just to teach others how to 'properly' take care of my property for me, when it has nothing to do with the business of the American people. A vacation is one thing, this is another. He's on indefinate "sick days" leave it seems.
At the White House, spokesman Tony Snow defended the president's decision to remain in Crawford indefinitely: "President Bush deserves August off, especially when you consider how many summers he had to go to school."
What else is the Whitehouse spokesman going to say? "Oh, sorry folks, but the president will come back whenever he feels like it and has 'no comment' as to why he is away so long."? FCOL - Poor baby has to work hard and had to go through so many sessions of summer school (school or work). He did beg us voters to give him this job, afterall, if I recall right a few years ago!
Elsewhere, Senator John Warner (R-VA) explained his decision to retire from the Senate in 2008, telling reporters, "That place is just getting too gay."
1) What has this got to do with the story at hand?
2) Now more openly gay-bashing politicos? Or was he referring to "gay" as in jovial and a frat-house? If so, hasn't that always been Washington?

Agree or disagree with Georgi Boy, you got to hand it to him. I wish I could just tell those that pay me, "I'll be back when I decide to come back. Nothing you can do about it, an my job is still guaranteed to me whenever I return.". He has nerve, considering opinion polls of him, and how he is trying to influence how history will record his presidency.

OK, I'm off the political wagon...for now, atleast ;)
