Built a comp-backed domain appraisal tool -- looking for honest feedback

Hey everyone -- I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to post. I built a domain appraisal tool called DomainVested and I'm looking for people to stress test it before I do anything public with it.

The thing that drove me crazy about existing tools is they just spit out a number with zero explanation. GoDaddy says $1,200, Estibot says $8,000, and you're sitting there going "cool but why?" So I built something that actually shows its work.

The core idea: every valuation is backed by real comparable sales -- right now sitting on about 46K actual transaction records. When you appraise a domain, you see the comps it pulled, the score breakdown (brandability, memorability, pronounceability, market potential), trademark risk flags from USPTO, and a verdict. You can disagree with it but at least you know HOW it got there.

You can try it without signing up -- go to app.domainvested.com and type in a domain right on the homepage. You'll see the score instantly. Sign up (free, no card) to unlock the full report with comps, valuation range, and AI analysis. Free tier gives you 10 appraisals a month. Pro is $29/month for higher volume, bulk scoring, and deeper analysis.

What I'm specifically looking for: domains where the valuation is obviously wrong. I know it's going to miss on some -- that's why I need real domainers testing it, not just me staring at my own code. If you've sold a domain recently and know the actual sale price, I'd love to see how the tool compares.

Appreciate any feedback, even if it's "this sucks because X" -- that's actually more useful than "looks cool."

I think you've misdiagnosed the problem. The problem is that text is white on white background. I guess you're previewing the site in dark mode. I highly recommend using a tool like Polypane so you can preview your site in multiple configurations in parallel, e.g: light mode, dark mode, small screen, big screen.

You can also make life easier for yourself during early development by developing only a light mode or only a dark mode. You can ask whatever coding tool you're using to disable the preference-respecting light mode.
Good point on the light mode. We've switched to dark mode only for now and will roll out light mode after further refinement. Thanks for the Polypane recommendation, looks like a useful tool.

@domainvested I noticed an error in your pricing:

this doesn't make sense - which is it?

Good eye, that was confusing copy. Fixed it - the pricing page now shows the limits clearly: 10 appraisals per month on Free, 200 on Pro. We adjusted the pricing yesterday after initial feedback and missed that. Thanks for flagging it.

The incognito switch does not work.
Also I see that (saw, com) > Confidence = Low, where 0 value domains show High. How to explain such confidence discrepancy?
I also have appraised a domain of a multimillion company and I was shocked by the low result!
Not sure if worth trusting appraisal tools further, many pro's here long time ago told to not trust appraisals, maybe they are right till now.

Cool. I'm trying a similar path but I'm not planning on providing appraisal services. I'm been building apps that integrate AI and old school code for a few years now. My first version found these: SagaNeural.com, SagaCortex.com. I tried your app and it gave me a numeric score, it seems to be working. I see you've got some nice two word .com's on your front-page. My app can ferret out nice two word domains from the mass of domain data quite well. Are my two domains good enough to be put on your site? I'm just experimenting with this business model where I can generate code quite quickly. Maybe we can work something out? I'm asking $100 each for the two domains above. If you buy one and let me know what kind of .com's you're looking for I'll tune my app a bit and put the $100 towards buying some unregistered .com's that you might find interesting.

Here's an appraisal by ChatGPT. ChatGPT isn't a specialized appraisal system but you can get a ballpark estimate from it.

My rough appraisal:

SagaNeural.com
Likely $1,000–$3,000 retail to an end user, with a quick-sale / reseller range around $75–$300.

SagaCortex.com
Likely $700–$2,500 retail to an end user, with a quick-sale / reseller range around $50–$250.

Other bugs I see.
1. the notification bell show 9+ when I view it and see Alerts I press each but the page show no notifications.
2. the appraised domains redirect to free page, below I see you are Logged in press to view full report, I press it but redirects back to dashboard appraisal page, so it is a loop.
P.s. thanks for one free month upgrade.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. The incognito toggle is a new feature and we're fixing a wiring issue with it. On the confidence showing Low for saw.com - that's the valuation confidence, not the score confidence. The scoring engine gives it a high score (86) but the valuation range has low confidence because comparable sales data for exact-match 3-letter .coms is thin. We're working on making that distinction clearer in the UI.

On multimillion dollar domains scoring low - the heuristic engine weights brandability, pronounceability, and market signals. Domains that are valuable primarily because of their brand association (company names) rather than their linguistic properties will score differently than you'd expect. We're adding brand recognition signals to address this gap.

Both fixed now -- thanks for flagging these.

The notification bell was incorrectly counting your alert rules as unread notifications. It now only shows actual alert triggers. Should show 0 until your alerts start firing.

The Full Report redirect loop is also resolved. Now takes you straight to the full domain profile.

Refresh the page and both should be working.
