Building a forum from scratch?

Hi Guys,

I have never created a forum from the beginning to end. Though, I was actually thinking, how do you create a successful forum from scratch??

Obv, if you already have a customer base.. Then, its already probably pretty easy. Though, if you have no visitors and the forum is the site... Why would the first visitors come and stay? And, basically how does a forum even build momentum??

I guess, just overtime and a good design??
