Hey,

Just curious, would you younger teens spend $80 on a vBulletin license?

I'm 16, currently get £10 a week pocket money. :p
It's just, $80 is quite abit, kinda "holds" my projects back.

Luckily, the license i do have, hosting etc is paid for by my brother. :hehe:

It's just annoying when i have to pay myself.

Does it stop you from creating a project, or do you just pay yourself?
Then hope for some profit?

Adrian

Im 17, a full time student, have no job & get no pocket money and own 3 vB owned licenses :P

None of my sites are in profit from adverts.

All i do is sell a website or two every month :) As long as you can afford to recope your spendings its easy to get a vB lic.

I have a lot in my PayPal that is all money I've made from doing whatever. I could spend it on things like script licenses and hosting.. but why would I? There are free forum scripts and I pay $2/month for hosting.

I just got vB for my Teen Forums, it was 160 in investments but by buying it I hope to get more members = more uniques = selling adverts.. so I hope to regain it, but its ok if I don't. I love my sie too much to care :)

I am 15, I'd stick to phpbb. :)

Phpbb3 is almost being released.

If you're going to use a free forum, I'd use myBB. The only downside is that it doesn't have as many mods as phpBB and other forums that have been around longer.

The only problem with MyBB is that i have found it to get lots more spam and hacking attempts than phpbb, smf, punbb, etc

I've always gone into forum building with a partner, so the workload is split evenly. We usually have defined responsibilities to ensure everything gets done quickly. In that case, your investment is almost certain to pay off.

My point? Don't pay the $80 unless you have the support of a knowledgeable and loyal partner, and you're sure that your idea hasn't been done before ("general" forums usually are incredibly difficult to get off the ground). :)

Good luck, I hope you make the best decision! B-)

A good idea is to start on free software then transfer onto vB, then you can start with mimal outlay and when your making cash from it you can invest more into it and get a vB license.
