Here's a rant:
When I submit names at NMC and I see newly submitted names getting listed above my names I feel like punching a bucket.

Edit: submitted 2 names a moment ago, refreshed and made sure they were there at the top of the list. 2 minutes later there are 7 other names above my names.


Also, a heads up: a $100 logo is = to a $200 logo which is = to a $500 logo. Not seen a single extra effort by their designers and I've tried each. Designers won't even bother use a different font. DON'T GET TRICKED INTO THINKING A $500 LOGO MEANS A PROFESSIONALLY DESIGNED LOGO, THEY ARE ALL OF SAME QUALITY.

Most of them are garbage quality. A word or two in a nice font and a clip art from some 1990's clip art program and we got to pay $100 for that ? One of my domains was just the domain name and a square on an angle. Wow, thanks for all the effort.

I don't want to 'kill' my names but these are a combined $1,000 worth of fonts. Seen better fonts on MS freaking PAINT.

I wonder how much this varies if you're growing your BB portfolio in quality instead of quantity? (assuming quality yields better internal search results)

As @Embrand BB portfolio is truly something to drool over.

Less domains. Less renewals. Less listing fees. Higher initial investment. Higher reward. The way to do it?

So many different strategies and factors to consider in domaining...

FWIW:

There appears to be 605 currently published domains priced over $10k.

Compared to an apparent current total of 54,245 published domains.

Equating to apprx 1% of their inventory priced over 10k.

Which I think @hookbox was getting at. The two separate classes of BB domains and sell through rates / profit margins?

I think the problem is that your portfolio is of such high quality. 82% of your names are above $8,995. It would be really hard to compare your sales against other sellers where the majority of the names in their portfolio are priced under $3,000.

Pushing this further @Embrand -- can you comment on the commission paid on sales over $10k? As there is an argument that premium domains sell themselves, and as such, 30% commission is (or hopefully was?) a little rich...

Nonetheless, having 99% domains priced under $10k, gives a little insight to the competition of premium BB domains (if you define premium BB domain by being priced above $10k). E.g. When searching by domains priced over $10k, the 54,245 field of domains shrinks to 605.

With one minor bug (or maybe strategic decision?) with the refine options...

BB has at least (4) TLDs published...

Yet, when you refine the search using their UI, you can only refine by (3) .LY, .IO, and .COM.

What about .ME!!!!? Ha.

Maybe the strategic decision was based off the apparent size of their .ME inventory?

I am glad you mention BB's commission, because this is actually one thing many people misunderstand. They do not charge 30 percent on all names. This is the commission structure:

• 30% for names below $50,000 USD
• 20% for names between $50,000 USD and $100,000 USD
• 15% for names above $100,000 USD

I'd hope BB would show a little wiggle room (maybe any domain that has the potential to be priced above $50k is subject to the lower 20% fee? Leaving the price adjuster not applicable to effect commission rates?)

I think most of these at $49,995 were added back when the commission was 30 percent for all names. But it is a good point.

You also have to be careful if you have a name at, say $52,000, and buyer asks for a 5 percent discount...

Seems like it'd be in the sellers best interest to negotiate the 5% discount as a rebate, payable X amount of time after the sale, in the form of VISA gift card(s). Ha.

i only have 1 name in brandbucket, is it ok if i just move my server now to another marketplace? domain will be deleted from their marketplace on 5th april.

BrandBucket February sales data

BrandBucket sent out their March newsletter on Friday and it looks like the average sale was $2,521. (Sales over $10,000 are excluded). This is the third month in a row the average sale has gone down. November $3,044, December was $2,938 and January was $2,885.
