When you happen across a domain you feel is very brandable do any of you ever think about keeping it and developing it yourself? Also would it be worth developing a domain with the sole intent to resell? I just got the .com and .net of a domain that I think I could turn into a brand but I have other online interests at the moment. I'm torn between resell and development. Help me out.

Times are slow. If you don't need the money right now I suggest you hold onto those two domains. Maybe your time will free up giving you a chance to work on that idea.. Best of luck!

Yes, its not a good time to invest in a domain in bulk. In short if you have brandable domain name then just sell it out.

I'm a brandable name fool ..... I've always leaned toward them.
Now is a very good time to develop due to the poor market and
economy. I'm in a boat now with tons of brandables and no good
market for them. I'll hold em and wait till I hook up with like
minded developer.

Good luck and make sure you let the cat out of the bags once you've developed this name ....

You are rarely going to get much money for a brandable as a domain alone. it's possible that developing is the better way to go as you are creating value for a name that didn't exist before. Most of the time if a company wants a nonsense name and the holder wants some ridiculous sum...they can easily move on to a second choice. However you want to be careful that you don't develop it into something that will alienate a potential buyer...

So you really have to use sound judgement and research who you think potential buyers could be before deciding on a strategy.

Do something with the domain to make it look like more than just an odd string of letters. Generally, these domains won't receive much type in traffic so you need something to make these come to life! I've found creating a logo (or having one designed for you) for your brandable .com will make it look far more attractive to buyers and more likely to sell.

A little development always helps, even if it is patently obvious you are just showcasing an idea. Parking plus services that allow you to match colors and upload narrative and a photo can make your domain stand out from the crowd.

Yeah definetly hold on to the domains if you think they are brandable and you cannot sell them especially in this sort of climate.
Brandables are always potential domains from what I have read. They become valuable with some work.

Like everyone else said, developing it will give your domain a name in the community. However, if you don't have any ideas for your domain, it doesn't hurt to put it on the market and see how much you could get for it.

If I had the time I'd build a brand for every one of my brandable names, I would.

All it takes is a great idea + great domain * hard work to build something big and for alot of ppl something big is the dream.

If you have a great idea - I say focus on it.

Google was just an idea once.

I definitely agree that the best thing to do with a brandable domain is to build a site immediately. This is great because you can start to maybe get a trickle of search engine traffic if you have some good content on the site and also great if you want to end up selling the domain because many end users can grasp the concept of a developed website if you send them a link much better than just a domain name that is undeveloped.
