It's not BP moron.. It's Halliburton... no wait, that guy with the dodgy shades... no the government agency that... no wait.. it IS BP.... or is it?

Lets get Fox Mulder out of retirement already.

I love the government - I guess er...drilling... could be.. I don't know... bad.. for the environment if we had an accident. Yeah, way to have FORESIGHT morans!

All I know is that I own an acre and a half of coastal waterfront property in Citrus County, Florida and if one drop of oil washes up on my shoreline, I'm suing EVERYONES ass to high heaven.

It's not looking too bad right now - the loop currents are sort of milling around out there.

Pretty sure that the whole county will have lawyers lined up ready to go.

Crystal River is awesome... great fishing out there too.

My property's out on Sportsmans Island. U-n-r-e-a-l fishing in that area, right off the Homosassa. Tarpons FTW :D

Just heard on the bbc news channel that BP announced a 760 mil loss but say 22k employees are at this time working on the problem.

I agree.

Seems to good to be true, wonder how much it costs.

Not exactly a solution to getting the oil to stop leaking but could help in clean up efforts. This well might be leaking for many years to come. Plus BP might be using illegal chemical dispersants to sink the oil so it's harder to trace an exact amount spilled. This would save them money on the back end of this disaster because it's impossible to calculate an amount when the oil doesn't surface.

Now that topkill didn't work they want to cut the pipe (allowing more gallons to leak at a time) in hopes of putting a valve on it. This could be the biggest mistake they made yet if that doesn't work allowing more oil to spill out.

I can't believe there is no massive oil clean up efforts going on yet.:|

I can't believe no one is bringing up the most amateur mistakes that where made to cause this. The rupture or failure that caused the explosion is tertiary in relevance.

First mistake was the fire or flames were put out. This is a basic mistake. Something I blame on some high level politician's phone called that saw the black smoke and freaked out. The truth is the flame or fire will help control the rate of release and the disposal of the oil.

Second was the use of water cannons to pump tons of water onto a floating platform. Once the structure was full of water it toppled over and sank. This snapped the oil lines below the water level. a simple burn control method would have included boarding the platform and powering up or lining up sub pumps to maintain a buoyant vessel. Then the use of chemical dispersant's repellents and retardants would control the flames and heat while a shunt could be designed and implemented. The 11 men were most likely drowned by the water pouring in on them as they fought to get power to pumps and life safety systems.

I also think this is why BP is acting so cavalier and somewhat arrogant. They know a US official circumvented the BP officials in order to stop that ugly politically incorrect black bloom of smoke. Not understanding the effects of such actions. "Check Mate" All that is left is for the entities involved to collude against one contractor to assign liable. If the valve below the surface had failed first then the flow of oil would have been interrupted and the flame extinguished on it's own.

Remember when Kuwait was liberated and the IRAQ army set fire to all the oil wells? Do you recall the fires burning until each one could be "capped"?

Here are a couple more ways I came across on how BP could try to stop the leak...

They could use a canvas sleeve and a zip tie (preferably not a Glad Zip Tie! ). Use a 5000' open ended canvas sleeve with a custom well bottom enclosure. Place it just below the flange and secure it with robots. Divers then at a safe and workable depth can cap off the end and start retrieving the oil. You need the flex of the canvas to fight the pressure and potential break off.

Another possible solution is an open 36" pipe sleeve drop it over the entire valve body then cap with a concrete block with gas purge fittings to relieve pressure.

Still got months before a new well will be drilled...might as well try a few other options while their working on that.

Still a long shot in both instances.
