The Cryptocurrency Domain Name Block-Chain.Com Has Been Acquired for $1,000,000
One of the largest ever cryptocurrency domain name acquisitions was announced during Consensus 2018, the 4th annual blockchain technology summit sponsored by CoinDesk. A group of investors has purchased the Block-chain.com domain for $1 million (111 BTC), which makes this the third most expensive cryptocurrency domain name acquisition ever.

Prior to this transaction, the most expensive blockchain domain names sold were btc.com (sold for $1.1 million as early as 2014) and eth.com (sold for $2 million in October 2017). The buyers of the Block-chain.com domain immediately launched one of the largest portals in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry, bringing together the functionality of all the current major industry players.

That's really awesome. No wonder hyphens in domain names do pay off when added to the RIGHT key/words.

PS: I bet my blockchain domains are worth at least six figures now, lol.

I guess we should start publishing lottery ticket numbers on NP as well. Maybe someone will identify patterns in winning lottery ticket numbers. How many crypto non-hyphenated aftermarket names are there and what percentage of those are receiving even $XXX offers? I do not plan to register any hyphenated domains or any blockchain domains as a result of this announcement. Anything worth registering was likely already registered in the last couple years. I have five two-word .COM cryptocurrency domains. Three were registered in 2008 and one in 2014. Yet inquiries are rare and thus far only in $XXX territory.

No matter of the price ("reportedly" 111 BTC), the hyphen wasn't the reason for the sale.

Wow, even in a slightly cool market the trend continues..

Now we get to watch all the Namepros domainers register thousands of worthless hyphen domains

That is great news for BlockChain domains the value just went up. I have BlockChainDU.com for Dubia, BlockChainIOC.com and BlockChainProc.com

Kudos to the seller! While this was one of the most incredible sale for a hyphenated domain,
imho the buyer really overpaid for it.

I bet that the domain name BlockChain .com will enjoy the free traffic from these guys marketing
and advertising campaigns as they have to explain and make a really big impact in people's minds
to type and remember this brand and not the other one.
However, as hard as it might seems is not impossible thou!

Wonder what the owners of Crypto-Coin, Crypto-Coins and Crypto-Currency (all .COMs)
might think about their names now. :) ;)

HAS ANYONE REGISTERED CHAIN-BLOCK.COM?

Again goes to show that when people have deep pockets, they pay the top dollar. Perhaps these guys wanted exact Blockchain.com which is already developed, so settled for next best.

Anyone knows who flipped it? Must have had some insider information.

Seemingly dumb move considering blockchain.com is a well established website.

Seems that I have to adjust prices for my blockchain domains :xf.smile:

This is a real market -- keep 'speculating' :)

But it’s a Blockchain. Not a Block-Chain.

Congrats to the seller because there are many better names out there for a blockchain related company for FAR less money.

2nd best to Blockchain.com... No way!
