So I'm going through tomorrow's auction list at GoDaddy (technically today, but I haven't slept yet) .. and I come across the following domain:

GasTheJews.com

I really don't want this to be a "GoDaddy" thing .. as in fact I've probably gone through well over a million domains and for the most part now that I think about it I'm actually impressed with how few I've seen considering the number of domains. The very reason it's hard to find good domains is why I like domaining as the best way to be successful at domaining is to find good names that don't get noticed .. so it's very understandable that occasional bad names also might go under the radar.

I've seen tons of adult domains which don't bother me at all .. I've seen a few borderline or potentially dual meaning domains which also don't bother me .. even the reaction to having "retarded.com" in the NamesCon auction seemed a little much to me as there are potentially possible uses of the domain that wouldn't necessarily be offensive ... but I don't ever recall seeing a domain quite as blatantly racist as this one with absolutely no dis-ambiguity or potential alternate/dual-meaning. I'm not jewish .. but the domain still crosses me as wrong.

I came here to share because I'm truly curious as to if anyone has seen anything similar? Are there policies in place for things this extreme? I'm a hard core believer in freedom of expression .. GasTheJews really crosses my usually extremely tolerant line.

Note: Sadly .. not only was it registered once .. but it actually has a bid! :(

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
There are exceptions of course and I did mention that in a previous post but I think we should carefully consider if there could be a second use for a domain.

The problem is that a domain isn't exclusively a blank piece of paper .. the domain itself is actually content. Granted, due to the shortness of most domains, the message/content isn't always clear. But the very small number of domains with a clear call to action most certainly do qualify as a full message (especially when there is no.

Protection of freedom of speech is extremely important .. it most certainly is not something to be taken lightly. However there most certainly are limits to it. Obviously where that line lies can often be subjective, but it isn't as open ended and abstract as most people here seem to believe. Depending on where you live, there most certainly are rules, laws and precedents often times with very clear definitions.

All that said though .. I'm not at all talking about laws or the forcing of any registrar to delete any domain. I'm simply informing a company that I'm a client of that I personally don't appreciate or support them profiting from hateful or harmful calls to action against people or groups.

Thankfully generally speaking GoDaddy does indeed care about the domains they profit from and seem to intend on being proactive on not profiting from hateful calls to action. It's just that they aren't always able to live up to that commitment for technical reasons.

Again though .. as I've said before, due to the nature of domains, I would never expect perfection on this issue. For example, filtering and flagging for a domain like "GasTheJews.com" would be challenging as that would mean flagging (for manual human verification) domains that included pretty much any and every race or group out there .. it's not all that difficult to do, but in cases like that as a client/user of GoDaddy Auctions I can appreciate that it's combined effort, that sometimes a client could find something not obvious and thus not flagged by their system. However, domains that include rape/kill are fairly obvious and should be extremely easy to filter/flag for human verification.

person registers a disturbing call-to-action domain..nobody knows if they have bad intentions. registrar profits from it..nobody cares.

a few domains pass through godddy expired auctions and suddenly it's horrible to profit from "strings of text I don't like."
unlikely that anybody sees these domains.
unlikely that anybody sees them and is sooo offended..when they could use their brain and realize that both bad and good people can buy "bad" domains.

get a grip

if godaddy actually cared, they'd screen for obvious ones like these

I mean..if watchpeopledie is apparently too bad :xf.rolleyes: then how is a domain containing *****r not bad?

by the way, "watch people die" doesn't have to glorify death or murder or something..it's just the natural end for everyone, so why not document it
the domain is very clear. if you don't want to see people dying, you don't visit the domain..
and it doesn't even have to contain gruesome deaths :xf.rolleyes:

But dude, come on!! Ever heard about black gay porn? Let people live, and get your life too...

Please do not make incorrect assumptions on my behalf .. I'm not even sure why you brought up gay porn specifically? As long as it's with non-presured consenting adults I don't have a problem with any porn of any gender or colour.

BlacksF*cking.com would be a perfectly fine domain (behind an adult filter obviously .. lol) .. GayBlacksF*cking.com would also be fine .. however I noticed that you conveniently changed the term from N!gger to Black .. if you don't have a problem with the term why didn't you use the exact term in the domain instead of conviently changing it to make me look bad and less tolerant than I actually am?

Hate/racism and free speech are both very serious and important issues .. but it's crucial that in such debates you actually take the time to understand the other perspective .. and much more importantly .. not to misrepresented what people say (again .. I have zero problem with black gay porn .. but I do have a huge problem with you incorrectly inferring that I do).

Ironically I actually have a very strong interest in free speech .. I've informed myself quite a bit on the subject .. read books on it .. I have a clear understanding of most concepts involved. I will always stand up in favour of free speech when I see it being infringed upon. However at the same time there most certainly are limits to free speech both legally and morally. Even my personal tolerance level is not at all part of my judgment .. (I don't have any interest at all in black gay porn .. but as long as everyone was consenting and there are no children involved I will aggressively defend your right to watch black gay porn all day long).

I go through thousands of domains a day making my lists .. I do not have my own filter specifically looking for extremely racist domains .. I'm not spending even an extra minute of my day looking for such domains. 99% of domains most would consider offensive I actually have zero problem with (and actually would have a problem if they were removed)

But that's my point .. if I'm crossing these rare extreme blatantly over the line domains without any effort at all, it means that something is wrong at GoDaddy (as @Paul Nicks admitted to himself a while back).

After looking at it further, the automated system had a bug introduced through a recent update. That term, and those like it should never have been allowed on our site. We're still working to fix the issue.

Hey @Paul Nicks .. seems like expired AntiGay.com is going on auction in 30 minutes (12:57pm Eastern).. probably too late to remove either way, but reminds me to ask if GoDaddy has addressed the bug you mentioned a while back?

Again .. are you sure? Really curious about the mechanics of your filter and what keywords it searches for?

The expired domain ChildRape.info (Registrar: GoDaddy) made it all the way to $5 closeout without being removed:

https://godaddy.com/domain-auctions/childrape-info-284629361

ChildRape.com is also on sale as a member listing buy it now.

https://godaddy.com/domain-auctions/childrape-com-181318415

In all fairness, I suppose ChildRape.info could actually technically be used as a help site (the one I'd be more upset about would be the call to action version "RapingChildren"). RapeTherapy.com is also currently coincidentally at closeout (also registered at GoDaddy .. by a different owner)

ChildRape.info will have completed the closeout cycle in 12 hours and no longer be listed at GoDaddy, but it's still fairly significant that it got past your filter.

GreenGrape would then also trigger the filter right?

Rape is a tough word to filter, it's part of a lot of legitimate words unlike the f word.

There will probably always have to be a human touch there to assure nothing slides through.

Better yet a simple report button similar to what we have on the forum could be an option.

@Paul Nicks :

ChildKiller.com
KidKiller.com
KillChildren.com
KillKidz.com
KillPutin.com
KillTheKid.com
KillYourWife.com
LittleGirlPhonesex.com
My*****rs.com
Nazi*****r.com
*****rCity.com
TeenBoyFucking.com

- are all, at this time of this writing, listed @ Afternic and promptly distributed to other registrars.

I took me ~10 minutes to find these.

Yes, it is not a big news that a number of API customers, most notably HugeDomains ( 7 domains from 12 above ), do not care what they own. But it is unfortunate that GoDaddy still accepts everything from API customers without human review.

P.S. Namepros forum software filtered out "n i g g e" expression.

That's pretty much why I keep posting these .. it's really beyond me that a public company like GoDaddy doesn't have a dual bot/human filtration process. Basically automatically flag anything with problematically prone keywords .. then have a human go through those.

It's important to remember that particularly with expired domains registered at GoDaddy, that these domains now effectively belong to GoDaddy and any potential sale nets them 100% profit PLUS renewal PLUS the potential continued future business of the potential buyer.

The one thing that really bothers me with all these new technology companies like Uber, Facebook, AirBnB, etc .. is their claims that they are merely intermediaries and as such are not responsible for their content or the goods/services being sold via their service. At a certain point there needs to be a minimum of corporate responsibility.

The case here however is really one step worse in that GoDaddy can't make that claim of only being an intermediary, as they own the expired domains when they sell at auction. So sure I'll be the first to agree it's a pain in the ass to take racism / hate and other such issues seriously when it comes to removing inappropriate domains .. and I'll be the first never to expect complete perfection .. but the domains that are getting through really show that they have no smart combination filter (Bot + Human) .. or that the person doing the human portion might need some stronger coffee.

It's not just _rape domains .. for me it's more the calls to action (I'm actually very pro-free-speech, so there's actually a lot that I'm fine that they sell that most would think I wouldn't be ok with considering all my posts about this) .. here's another one that I found while going through the main list building tomorrow's auction list for NameCult .. SellYourKid.com

N i g g e r M a n.com expired domain on auction at GoDaddy in about 30 minutes:

https://www.godaddy.com/domain-auctions/*****rman-com-286491547

Hey @Paul Nicks .. sorry to keep beating a dead horse .. but any chance you could reply to my posts from April 5th and May 11th regarding AnalRape and ChildRape (above)? Again .. I don't like assuming things and complaining over stuff I'm not fully informed on .. but it's several times I'm asking to be informed about GoDaddy's actual exact filtration process .. with Rape and N!gger domains getting through combined with no specific details or replies, it's very hard to assume that there is any filtration process at all when I'm actually fairly sure there is, but it's either not good enough or not working properly.
