"Gates believes that computers will eventually meet up with the mobile phone..."

Looks like me and Mr. Gates are on the same page ;)

The odd thing is...

Microsoft and Bill Gates don't manufacture anything except software.

They don't make a computer, they don't make a zune, they don't make a phone.

These products are all made by someone else...outsourced.

Just because MS puts their name on it does not make it a success or mean worldwide acceptance.

Bill Gates may be a guru in software, nice speech, but again...did anyone bother ask the people what they want?

Sorry Bill, I don't plan on carrying a "man purse" to tote my "portable" phone.

And said no computers will need more than 640K of memory ;)

and in my opinion more tellingly wrote a book in 1995 in which he doesn't even acknowledge the internet as a force for changing computing

this guy is a copy of a copy

steve jobs farts out more original ideas after eating a burrito than gates has had in his entire life

but he does churn out some mind numbingly over-featured software, i'll give him that

reece bro, with all due respect for our ongoing disagreement, this is just another pr flak job for microsoft's latest gadget

and to think i have'nt even gotten my first zune, i'm so jealous

I am very much behind the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. They do some tremendous things to help others and he has a vision for helping millions, perhaps billions, with his philanthropy endeavors.

Apple does seem to be personally involved with all aspects and phases of development, design, and implementation of their products. Apple, I would have to say, listens to their customers and gives them what they want. That makes them more unique than many others. You LOOK at their product and you know it is different and you know it is Apple. I think Sony is another model of this with Samsung a close second regarding consumer product usability and desirability.

totally agree, the gates family were and are philanthropists even before bill made his cash and i am certain melinda is really keeping bill on the right path, good people

i swore off the apple /pc debate long ago, i say use whatever you like ....

but apple and jobs are in a different league from gates and microsoft when it comes to real creative genius

apple leads .....microsoft follows

everything that comes out of gates and ballmer's mouth is designed to flak whatever desperate project they have up their sleeve

if open source continues to gather steam, these guys are toast (and maybe apple too)

To all the MS and Bill Gates bashers - do better than him, then chime in.

Do you really think that Bill Gates is unoriginal? Can you even fatham his early life? How about when he reinvented life with his partners by pursuing, creating, integrating, marketing and selling the software that runs the world now? Was he being unoriginal then?

I'm not a BG fan, but geesh, to call the guy that really helped move the world forward in such a big way unoriginal is just unbelievable. Menudo the group - unoriginal. BG - definately original.

Yes, he had some great ideas early on, but he's certainly been unoriginal since Windows 95 came out...

So putting together the OS that runs the majority of the worlds computers / businesses and subsequent updates until 1995 is not enough to be called original anymore?

Well, buddy ol pal, what have you done that makes you more original than that? I think that for someone to say that BG has been unoriginal (iyo) since w95 therefore he is unoriginal period is just ... well ... I don't know - ignorant? Lame? I'm sort of at a loss for words...sort of.

oh please man, please .....

microsoft software "run the world" ??

it's expensive, closed, buggy, bloated

microsoft software is an example of how _not_ to run the world

you want to run the world ?

then give it open source affordable software that is free, useful, reliable and innovative .... make software available to everyone and useful

the one thing microsoft is afraid to do right now is turn around and see how close everyone is to their backside ..

I bet you that at least 20% of your daily electronic interactions involve some sort of MS software - the sites you visit - browsers - email - enterprise solutions - POS and B2B solutions, etc. Let's not even try to guess all of the software that was either based off of or inspired by MS products. Man, please yourself. In the other room, to your PC that is probably also at least 20-30% MS.

Also, you have to have some kind of accomplishment to your name in order to say that someone like BG isn't somebody. Otherwise your words are like little ignorant flecks of nothingness.

I invented post its, so therefore I can say it. I choose not to, but I could. You, I doubt it very very much.

Sorry for the sidetrack but I thought that was credited to Spencer Silver and Art Fry of 3M in the 70's. Were you connected with them?

I didn't invent post its. That statement was a tongue and cheek reference to 3rd rate movie.

:hehe: Thanks for the clarification. For a second there I was going to send you a pack of post it's to be autographed.

Back on the original topic, why did Microsoft bother to build MSN.mobi then?

Funny you mentioned this in this thread, not sure how this fits into Gate's world view of smaller PC's and bigger phones seeing as the Surface is one of the biggest PC's I've seen. I think the Surface is cool as demo'd but it is completely contrary to the concept of mobility since it is in fact the table itself.
