Big TM violation....What did I know.

The first domain name I ever bought was (don't laugh)
HarleyDavidsonMotorcyclesForSale.com (I also know it is quite long)
I bought the domain off of EBay for about $20 back in 2004. I even spent time developing the website.

I was going to make a website where people could post personal want ads for the selling of motorcycles. I finally found out that I could not compete with the big websites that already provided this opportunity (plus my lack of knowledge of website building).

In the long run I am glad i did not fully develop this site due to TM violation. There was only two ways I was going to find this out, from a lawyer or from this website. I am glad i gave up on the site and switched to the strict purchasing of domain names so I could find this site and learn before i made a mistake and tried to develop it again.

I am just wondering if anyone else had this great idea to build a profitable website of a TM'd name?
I also wonder if anyone bought a domain name, in the beginning of their portfolio that is TM'd and thought they could make money off of selling it to the company or an end user?

I still own the domain name though just for the sake of owning and I renew it every year, not the best move but it keeps me focused on what not to buy.

Also I would ike to give a big THANK YOU to all the owners and members of this site that provide so much of their expertise to newbies. THANK YOU :)

A lot of people are freaking out over TM.
But really TM is not an issue so long as you get permission from the TM holder.

Example:
http://www.googlecash.com/
http://www.windowsforum.org/

But anyhow there's a difference between websites containing TM and TM squatting. TM Squatting is BIG issue.

Yeah I recently had a TM with googlestore.us

I'm new to the game too so I never really considered TM before I was informed here about them. Luckly GoDaddy gave me a refund on the domain. :)

I believe if you register a domain and then change your mind a few days later (within 7 days I believe) they'll give you a refund.

Yah it was something within 5 days or something. You can't ask for a refund a week before its time to renew :P

Do other registrars has that policy?

Well, if you have a doubt that the domain may be TM'd then dont buy it!

I bought 6 domains last week through godaddy, all were not TM'd but sensitive. Got a full refund minus one penny. Must be done within 5 days. Used that money to buy a couple other domains with no TM issues.

Most registrars offer a 7 day refund. That's how a lot of traffic domains are disovered ... register, park, then refund the crap ones ...

Every registrar has a 120-hour window to get a refund for a domain after it's
registered. But they don't necessarily have to offer that to their end-users.

Go Daddy can potentially lose money doing that. But that's why they make up
in...other ways.

i dont know about namepros but you get refund on godaddy, namecheap, and domainsite.

though TM is an issue unless you have permission from the TM Holder otherwise you can get screwed.
