if you still have the email with complete headers on it, forward it to [email protected]

It's an old spam, I've been seeing it for alteast a year.

And spamming the forum is as bad as any other kind of spam. I count atleast 3 threads you've started for this topic.

these kind of emails basically try to steal your ID and your password so as to manipulate your account (eg. steal money) ...

they usually retrieve your email from the WHOIS or illegal mailing lists and then blast away trying to trick people that are unaware of them and in the rush of a possible suspension might click their fake link (which redirects you to a phishing site) and enter their details .

They are usually known as spoof emails and it is adviseable that you forward them (with full headers) to the approppriate company (eg. [email protected] , [email protected] , [email protected] , etc) so that they can shut the fake site down and other unsuspected users don't get tricked .

The funniest thing is when you receive a spoof from a company you don't use or in a different email account than the one you have with that specific company .

You can refer to this post on how to recognise these emails and ways to safeguard against them (read the thread from the start if needed) .

Also this post has some useful information regarding other common tricks like the 419 emails .

I saw a new one today... VERY creative. I looked at it hard and long before I figured it out.

It says that the Bill for an Auction I have won has been Cancelled by the Seller. Naturally, anyone that goes through the pain and suffering of winning something on Ebay will react instantly to being told they CAN'T ge their item!!! It just gives the Auction Number and that's a link. Clicking the Auction number takes you to a very authentic looking signin page, which is totally natural to expect to see.

I didn't fall for it but I was about 90% there when I remembered that ANY email coming to you from Ebay/PayPal will have your NAME as well as your email. This did not. I also checked the link to and it was a redirect CGI deal and I knew it wasn't right.

VERY Tricky email scam. WATCH OUT FOR THIS ONE!

I deleted it after I forwarded it to the Spoof address.

If I get another, I'll post it.

But even so, it states and auction was won but the seller has cancelled their billing and decided not to sell the item.

It gives an auction # (which didn't work for me) and a link to sign in to your account to contact the seller.

Pretty smart approach to the same old scam. Only this one is much more simple and easier to get caught up in.

Definately watch out for this one.

Gopc, I received the same email from ebay - and I don't sell or buy on it.
I have an account, but don't remember ever using it.
Funny thing though, I got a notice saying my deal has been cancelled..lol
Think they'd check to see if it's active account or not.
They also sent an email to a friend of mine who was suspended over 3 years ago.
Think it's an inside job?...where else would they get suspended/canncelled accoount info from

No... I think it's just the random odds of spam emailing. For all the thousands oo even millions of names they shoot the email to, some of them are bound to have a discontinued relationships with Ebay. It's the law of averages.

I noted that while the email did come to me, the address it was sent to was one of my alias emails I use for one of my other websites... NOT the email I have on file with Ebay.

No big conspiracy here I suspect... just happenstance.

Still.. pretty sneaky. Grrr....

first its [email protected] (no s)

and I just got one today :D LOL, thay are so fake its not even worth trying, but a lot of ppl fall for it each year, all the e-mails NEVER go to my real paypal account, thats a dead give away, if you want to do it right, find me paypal e-mail and send it there.... make it look more legit anyways.
