Actually I'm hoping my domain name is high-ticket... I need to raise some money quick, so an auction seems like my best option. Should I hire an expert to handle this for me? Anybody have a recommendation?

Flippa.com seems to be mentioned a lot for auctioning domain names. Is that the best place to do this?

I'm expecting 6 figures for this domain name, but I could be way off...

I think you would be better off with Sedo or GoDaddy. More eyeballs. Probably also more money. But I think it would be slower than you are expecting. Also a good choice might be with Heritage Auctions (HA.com). Or at the next big domainer conference. If it's really premium then you should broker it. that also might be slower than you want.

But this statement rings large warning bells that even you think it's not as premium as you are expecting.

if u give name, people will tell you more where to auction it, or whether it should be auctioned at all, given yuor own doubts about it.

Good point, the domain name is appletree.com. I have about 60 related names like appletree.co, appletree.net, appletree.at, appletree.com.mx, etc. I have a trademark as well as various social media names like @appletree on Twitter.

That’s not not a six figure name, if you find the right end user. Having all those other extensions definitely helps, as does having the social media usernames and especially the trademark.

If you really need to sell quick, then auction might be your best bet, but that won’t maximize what you can get for it. I see this definitely getting five figures, but unlikely more than $20k at auction. If you do auction, I would look at Sedo and perhaps contact them beforehand to see if they might do a special premium listing, as I’ve seen done with a few names there recently. You’ll definitely want to promote the auction as far and wide as you can - I would look at advertising on places like DNJournal and Namebio and whatever other domain investor-focused blogs you can buy ads on.

If you want to maximize what you can get financially you should just hire a broker - but it might take time.

What does your trademark cover, wordmark? registered? I see many dead TM's on the term, a few live.

I don't think you can get six figures. The plural is parked with a uniregistry lander, not a good sign.

I think under ideal circumstances to the right end user you are looking at $10-25K, flippa you probably be in the $2-3K range.

Thank you for the advice. Where can I find a good broker?

Just realized we didn't renew our trademark, so we don't have the trademark anymore I guess. But at least it was trademarkable...

Appletree.com is very brandable. You maybe able to swing a venture capital arrangement with a new startup for shares. Or a lease to buy arrangement, 5,000 1st year, 20,000 2nd year etc. to over $100,000. For a quick sale you won't get much. We would all love to have it for 2-3K and hold onto it for more money.

I'd be open to a lease to buy arrangement, with more than $5k 1st year.

That's interesting, makes me feel like appletree.com should be worth dramatically more than $2,647...

Anybody know any great domain brokers that would help find a buyer?

Personally. I don't agree with @NameTurtle regarding all the other TLD's. IMHO. they bring almost no additional money to the table. Maybe a grand or two. Any buyer want the .COM. They are probably not very interested in the rest. The FaceBook/Twitter handles may add a couple of grand. The trademark will only add value if it pertains to the buyers business. Which is probably going to be difficult since AppleTree is such a brandable domain. It's going to be a miracle if you have guessed any buyers business correctly with your trademark.

I'd say definitely below 50K tops if this domain is brokered properly. In an auction I'd say below 30K tops. These are maximums, IMHO. I'd try MediaOptions.com for a broker, if they will accept it. (It might not be good enough for them).

I don't think the alternative extensions necessarily have value in and of themselves, but I do see value in being able to protect a name outright when the internet is so fragmented these days. "Appletree" is generic enough that different businesses could exist on a .com and a .co - as is the case with many many generic names already.

If anything, it should act as a deterrent to others wanting to start a business using the same keyword in the future. One benefit is it saves the brand owner money on marketing since they don't have to compete on the same keywords.

Anyhow, good luck with the sale!

Such an awesome name. I wonder if Apple wants to pick it up. They will probably want to put some of their products on an appletree.

Outbound marketing would be the way forward (which a broker would do if you weren't confident enough). A whole host of possible end users out there with AppleTree in their domain names. Google/bing/yahoo appletree and see what comes up. Check Twitter, FB and LinkedIn for accounts with appletree in. Go to NameDroppers.com (I think), and see what other names are registered and active.

That's a great idea. I should try and contact Apple...

Actually, you should probably contact a broker or attorney before doing that. There doesn’t seem to be much cause for a UDRP, but if you’ve ever parked the domain and Apple-related ads displayed on it, that could be a sign of bad faith. In a worst case situation they could file a claim to take the domain from you if they don’t like the price, by claiming you only ever registered the domain with the intention of selling it to Apple, and your reaching out to them to offer it could be additional proof of that.

Interesting. I see a few references to the emerging crypto market as an apple tree, and the coins as apples to be harvested. If this analogy is adopted, then appletree.com could be massive.
