Well, it's about time to move back to school. I was wondering about your opinions on which antivirus software I should go with? Any help is certainly appreciated!

No man I am on windows.

But I hardly get something new from the internet.

I am just a developer and 90% of time I am writing my own codes in notepad.
Your own codes? Notepad? Theres a lot better apps for that.

Fedora Core works well ;)

But its McAffe on windows for me.

Norton, I know many people hate norton, but I have used it all my life and I have never had any serious virus problems, norton might not be the best, but it is stable and works extremely well.

My school requires that we use BeSecure, which is just like a modified version symantec. http://www.rescomp.berkeley.edu/besecure/ If you want it just PM me and I'll upload it to one of my hosting accounts.

How does it compare with Kaspersky (not freeware, but highly rated)?

Unfortunately, Norton can give you a false sense of security by reporting zero malware, when Avast, Ewido or Kaspersky will shatter that illusion. I don't use Norton any more for that reason. Also Norton can be very expensive when they fail to send you promised rebates.

I am surprised that Windows Defender also misses significant malware and gives you false sense of security.

The best strategy is to use several of the top-rated tools. I've removed AntiVir because it proved inferior to Avast. I am also testing NOD32.

I deleted McAfee and downloaded the free Anti-virus software from AT&T (SBC Yahoo). Works great!
