Google search trends have got "capital" as pretty flat for searches, and most of those seem to be for capital FM radio, and the capital one credit card. With nearly a billion and a half results chasing those searches, I'm not sure how one could make money if one pays a premium price for a name with the capital keyword. Am I missing something, or is this a word to avoid?

Pre existing Search volume on google is not that relevant to a large enduser. Marketing and branding directly affects search volume. Both mentioned terms you mentioned would have very little search volume if people didn't know about them in the first place...

That's a very valid point, and one that I've come up against in the past. On one name I had to compete with a massively popular pop singer, and a couple of other uses of the name. My mini-site had no associations with any of the top search results. Maybe I'm taking the wrong approach to monetisation, and I should have used the site to promote one of the competing topics.

Their are many other free traffic sources besides search engines,...facebook, youtube, instagram, linked in, blogs, etc.

P.s. the problem with the basic mini site is they normally rely on adsense and affiliate programs for majority of revenue. The odds these days are against you being successful with that model. Google is showing less contextual ads which drives down your ctr dramatically. Find better ways to make the most revenue from your targeted visitors then market it. Imo:)
