Registering or purchasing a domain name that contains a commonly used word is a bad idea. It can lead to litigation or a UDRP, and it would severely limit a person’s ability to use the domain name.

Here are some of the words that are trademarks:

1. Astroturf
2. Auto-Tune
3. Band-Aid
4. Botox
5. Bubble wrap
6. Realtor
7. Tupperware

I have owned several "Realtor" domains and can confirm that they will try and go after you or at least use it as a reason to lower the price of the domain name.

Who would have thought dumpster is trademarked? :D

Before registering a domain, do your research. Your best friend is an internet search and a visit to USPTO.gov and other trademark sites.

Go Daddy has done this for you on its auction site, but it still pays to check as domains can still slip through the cracks.

I owned DallasRealtor dot com several years ago, and within 1 day of winning it on a GoDaddy auction they contacted me with a C&D. Said I could own the domain but not put any content on it.
