This is just a free 5 page starter site Godaddy gives out with purchase of domain name.

I want to know how many visitors it's getting daily and would appreciate any ideas on developing this into a nice site.

All I've done was submit to the free directories and search engines that are listed here: http://twilightresearch.com/creative.html

These are the rankings I just got from Alexa.com for TwilightResearch.com

Indonesia = 160,791
Greece = 212,706
Brazil = 340,724
United States = 696,373
United Kingdom = 727,134

TwilightResearch.com has a worldwide Alexa rank of 3,792,493. I would estimate you are getting 2-5 visitors a day. Its a decent name and you could develop it on some research theme. However, since research is too wide a term, you would have to think of a niche where you can excel. Some niche, where you too, as a webmaster have the knowledge and can write in articles, news, etc. That would really help your SE rankings.

Hi Varon,

On Alexa if you look down at the bottom left it shows the numbers (rankings) I gave you, but your right on the worldwide rank. It's not really worldwide friendly due to English only.

I posted here a while back that this site (Twilightresearch) was accidentally directed to a parking site and got 14 visitors in approx 90 minutes, so I know it's more than 1-2 visitors per day.

It shows Alexa in 1 wk. Avg. 1,731,062 so it probably receives around 80-100 visits daily (guesstimate).

I suggest you remove that "Page 1" in the title and replace it with your site name and target keyword. Also, that Godaddy free hosting has a lot of annoying ads there. Yes it's free but those ads might annoy visitors and is not good for your image. Get a paid host with cpanel for easy management.

Thanks netPH,

I'll try to change that title, It's just so messed up I haven't messed with it in a while.

I have a local guy in Lexington that says he'll build me a fully developed site for $600-700 and I pay up front, Does this sound about right?

If your site has a weekly average of around 1.7 million, then I guess your site does get around 8-12 visitors a day average. Remember that some days your traffic might be lower. Alexa takes an average count. It will take time for Alexa to update your worldwide ranking.

600-700 is a bit too much unless you are planning a lot of graphics/flash and shopping/ecommerce features. You can find good web developers easily on the net for cheaper. Try rentacoder. Its decent. And don't pay the entire money upfront. Its better to pay in instalments using a design-build-test-launch stage. First ask the designer for his previous work samples and references if any. Don't just blindly believe anyone.

You can try to outsource from our own webdev marketplace here on namepros :) there are a lot of really talented folks here. Also, don't pay full payment up-front. You could face some possible problems in the future doing that. The webmaster might leave your site undone or not satisfying your requirement/s. Ask for a portfolio of accomplished jobs to see and make sure to have easy communication. A local person near you sounds good but insist that you pay a downpayment first then the remaining fee will be paid after the project. That will keep you safe.

Yeah. I had big plans to develop a site and I got a web developer locally from the US who showed me samples which he actually hadnt even designed. After paying a down payment, I realized that he had no knowledge and was trying to outsource my work to someone else. To top it all, he would keep asking me for money every 2 days with nothing complete. His lame excuses included "I need money to get a new graphics card for my computer to complete your project". Well, 200 dollars later I realized it was no point going ahead with him and just forgot about the money. I just threw away my project.

I had actually got this so called designer from our web development forum. So, to be safe, just make sure that the developer is really genuine before paying even a single penny. There are ofcourse good developers who post here, but you need to be a 100% certain and look for previous feedback left.

Im just in the wrapup stages of a project I did with a coder in India I found on RentACoder.com
He did an excellent job and at about 1/5th to 1/6th the price I was quoted by domestic developers on RentACoder.

I would not hesitate to use outsourced web development again.

Id suggest you check out rentacoder. Be sure to choose a coder with a high ranking (the guy I chose was in the top 0.1% of all the coders on the site) and make sure to check out their portfolio.

The nice thing with RentACoder is its done with Escrow, so if the coder turns out to be a dud or delivers you something other than what you agreed on, you can scrap the project and you get all your money back.

I wondered about paying full amount up front, it just seems like at that point your kinda at the developers mercy. Your right on about the local person sounding good.

I've never had one of my names fully developed and wonder how does this work as far as the name staying secure. Can the developer do it through Godaddy or will they want to move it to a different host?

How does the name stay safe from hijacking?

No, you don't have to entrust your domain's user/passwd. All a developer need is access to host/server to upload files, create database, set permissions, tests etc. When transfering host, all you have to do is to set the server's DNS address to your domain user panel. It's really easy, no need for someone to do it. Just keep in mind NOT to share your domain's user/passwd.

I don't think I will develop them. I intend to sell of most of my names by this year end. I consult as a full time job, and my work travel starts next week. I've been lucky these few months, when I was working remotely from home. I no longer will have the time to develop them. I might however, develop the domain parking site. All my other domains will just stay put at whypark. And a few hundred parked...the adult ones.

Thanks again netPH,

I'll be in the developer wanted area asking some questions, soon.

Back to the "Based on these rankings, can anyone tell me how many visitors I'm getting.." topic, someone here previously recommended the statcounter.com tool. It enables you to place a counter on your website. It will either count by pageviews or unique visitors. I've tried it and it works well. They have a no charge version. Will be helpful for you to track visits going forward.
