Banning Proxy Sites on a website

One of our clients runs a large and active Video Gaming battle community, similar to GameBattles.com

One annoying issue is that people will register and play on the site using a proxy service. This opens up the possiblilites of fraudulent play and general cheating.

Therefore, does anybody know of any software that will spot a proxy and immediately intervene with a 'Er, please xxxx off' message ?

You can block proxy access thru the php function
"HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"
But this may not work for anonymous proxy servers.

Yeah, there's ways you can up your protection, but I mean, there's no way to ban proxies all together. Most proxies are designed to go unnoticed.

You might also consider giving access to the games only to registered users. This can hep you to better track each user by username instead of IP Address which is prone to spoofing.
