Hi,

I lost a domain a while ago and it was captured by dropcatches and now is available for thousands of $$ on hugedomains. They have been sitting on it a couple of years, obviously with no one interested in purchasing it.

Is there any point in placing a backorder? Or will that only work if hugedomains don't renew the registration?

I'd keep watching it until they let it drop. As long as no one inquires them about it, that should happen eventually.

Whatever you do, DO NOT place any inquiry RE: negotiating a lower price etc. Just keep tracking it and stay silent. That's your best course of action if you feel certain that no one else would be interested.

Thanks Wayne. I take it you mean keeping quite that also means don't place a backorder? Does a whois query raise any attention?

Also, to be clear, are backorders only possible once the domain is dropped? The domain is actually expiring in a couple of days but over the last couple of years it just auto-renewed to hugedomains.

It's kinda hard to say without seeing the domain. If there is any value that might entice others such as traffic or otherwise, I would backorder through some other service like snapname or namejet just to be safe.

If dropcatch(hugedomains) sees there is interest they will likely renew it and possibly increase their price.

imo...

dropcatch has now prereleases, so, before dropping they could sell it over a 10 days auction, starting at low price.
