Backlinks?

What exactly are backlinks? I have a domain parked with Sedo that recieved a crazy amount of traffic one day. I was told by Sedo that it maybe because of a backlink it had with another site. They wanted to confirm that I did not create the backlink, which I didn't. My name was a former transport company and the site that Sedo mentioned is a transport company forum site. Sedo said that intentional backlinks were aganst their rules. I am confused. Thank you

I see. But why would this only show up for only one day. I received over 400 hits in one day and then back to the usual 5 hits a day. Why would Sedo care? Of all those views I only recieved like 10 actual hits. I would think that they would like the legimate hits.

That link to your domain was created via forum? I suppose someone posted a hyperlink there and generated a lot of traffic through.

Yeah, it could been put up recently for a link or something along those lines.
