Avoid 1and1.com!

I recently cancelled several domains over at 1and1.com both online and by mailing them the signed cancellation forms. However, I received an invoice a few days ago requesting payment (I'd cancelled the card I had online with them).

I've informed them twice by email that I sent the cancellation forms and didn't want those domains.. apparently they don't read english because they have sent yet another request for payment as if I'd never contacted them.

In addition, they have threatened to freeze any remaining domain I have with them and charge me collection fees and an additional $18.95 service charge!

They are a piece of work over there! They have ignored my emails thus far and have given me 7 days to update my credit information or they will freeze the account and start collection proceedings..

AVOID THEM!

Good post and thanks for the letting people know.. I hope you can take them to the cleaners for compensation. Do a print out of all your communications including date stamps etc and talk to your solicitor. They will cease the collection order.

Seems to me that all the cheapy companies like 1and1 and yahoo domains that slel domains too cheap(right) aare the one you have problems with!
In all my dn career, i learned this!

yaya ya i no, yo have to contact there billing to get that payment removed. I had that when i transfered 2 domains, i got billed for them for close to 3 years.

Is it me or do all these registrars seem to be disgustingly disorganised? If you ask me, they're trying to take advantage of the fact that most people don't know what to do against them in these situations.

no 1 and 1's normal practice is if you miss payment on 1 thing they lock EVERYTHING you have with them until that 1 invoice is paid regardless of it's value and the value of the rest of what you have.

people choose 1and1 for the cheap prices. i even heard that they don't allow ownership transfer... fishy

Amazingly, I had a no problem transfer from them using Registerfly (took 3 days) but yes, they do charge $5.99 (minimum) to transfer between 1and1 packages.

I have similar issues w/ these shtsters and am still attempting to scrape them off of my shoes and remove them from my life. By a stroke of luck, I didn't register anything w/ them until last December, so I still have a bit of a grace period. I will enlist the services of my legal services attorney to deal w/ them if they don't cooperate and loosen their grip soon.
