Have you ever wanted to know the average age of a domain that sold on Afternic?

We determined the average age to be approx. 116 days. Not all names will sell, but of the ones that do, they average 116 days from auction open to auction close.

Just an interesting fact to consider when deciding whether or not to renew domains on speculation.

Hey Bill! No, I never wondered about that before.

Interesting fact about the 116 days, but I don't know what to make of it.

I don't know if the average age has any relevance.

Am I missing something here Bill?

What research brought you to this average duration?

The average isn't that useful without considering the standard deviation. However, you could take it as a sign that if you have names that haven't sold in years, they might not be worth renewing.

Agreed with Col and Bill, my domains are hidden deep as well, does not really bring me any offers so far, but then again maybe my domains are not good enough :(

Why use a domain exchange?

To make a quick sale, you probably need to sell names on forums like this one, and through personal contacts / one on one sales work... Selling domains is like fishing, you either go to the fish (fast) or you wait for them to come to you (slow but still effective).

It's wise to list your names on as many domain name exchanges as possible. Domain name exchanges are always working to get more buyers to search their directories of available names. For instance, go to domainsbot.com and search for funnies. You'll see a few results, and the bottom two are listings on Afternic. funniest.org isn't even parked at Afternic, it's parked at BuyDomains. Despite where you choose to park your names, you should still list them for sale on as many directories as possible to gain maximum exposure.

Actually, I always wondered this. I figured it took some time for them to sell, not just overnight.
