Avatar Size

I just noticed that the avater you can have is a max. file sieze of 10KB and this is very small so you can't really have any GIF animated avaters.. can't you make it atleast 20KB or more?

Thats right. I just tried to upload a one and it was 16KB. Can't you make the limit to 20KB

If the size limit is increased then everyone would be uploading avatars that are too big and it would make it look cluttered. Also, keep in mind that avatars take up bandwidth, so by increasing the size would then increase the bandwidth required for the site. I think it's fine the way it is, any bigger avatars would make the user tidbits look cluttered and take away from the purpose of the community. It's about domains, it's not an avatar competition.

I'm ok with small/plain avatars, otherwise they do tend to take on too much of a playground feel.

It's not the size in pixles.. it's just the size from 20KB ~ Can't you do it like this: uploaded acaters = 10KB max., but linked avaters can be 20KB or something around that?

I think it may make pages load a little slower here at NamePros, I'm pretty sure the admins won't like that :D

20KB is a little big for an avatar.

Just remember, any increase in size (kb) of pages, will slow down your browsing experience....

I noticed that too. But as mentioned before, in a forum with over 15 000 members and growing by hundreds daily, it will require tons of more space and bandwith.

20kb X 15000 = 300 000kb of bandwith just for avatars :: too much, IMHO :gl:.

Avatars you link to are then downloaded to the server and stored locally. Besides, even if this wern't the case, it'd still slow the page down - which is the last thing we need!
