RE: Autonomous & Driverless car domains

Seems like there's a lot of news lately, as recently as the last few days, of advances in driverless & autonomous cars. There are multiple auto makers getting ready to launch some form of these cars, and of course, Google is working on their project car.

I have a handful of domains related to this news & technology, and I am wondering if anybody else has any? Also, any spike in traffic to your domains, or news of sales???

Good one. I also have names that won't go cheap. Wouldn't mind holding for years to achieve that

A timeline of when self-driving cars will be on the road, according to the people making them

Cars are already driving themselves on roads in California, Texas, Arizona, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Though they are still restricted to specific test areas and driving conditions, it’s pretty clear that at some point in the future, completely driverless cars will be a mainstream reality. When that future will arrive, though… depends on who you ask.

Predictions for the arrival of fully autonomous vehicles range from a few years to a few decades, a disparity exacerbated by varying definitions of “autonomous.” While some people use this word to describe cars that self-drive only in specific conditions, others peg their estimates to the point at which cars are so autonomous that they don’t even need a steering wheel, or a brake pedal.

Daimler and Bosch: fully autonomous cars within 5 years

Look out, startups. The big guns are taking on autonomous driving with serious intent.Daimler, one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in the world, announced that it is partnering with Bosch, one of the largest automotive tech and hardware suppliers in the world, to bring fully autonomous vehicles to urban roads “by the start of the next decade.”

It’s already 2017, so the start of the next decade is not quite three years away. But with the resources available to the Daimler-Bosch partnership, they plan on co-developing vehicles capable of SAE Level 4 fully automated driving and SAE Level 5 driverless operation. The focus of the partnership will be on the software and algorithms required to make those advanced driving systems safe and predictable.

According to press releases from both companies, the goal is to create shared cars that can operate autonomously within designated areas of a city. The user can call the car via app, ride without a driver, and be dropped off, leaving the driverless car to pick up another customer. The companies hope to both ease traffic and improve accessibility for those who can’t drive or don’t have a driver’s license.

Self Driving Car Company Launches on a .Auto Domain

A new self-driving car company was recently spun out from an online education startup company, and it is using a .Auto domain name for its website. The company is called Voyage, and it is using the Voyage.Auto domain name. Voyage.Auto was registered this past February.

I read about the startup on Techmeme, which shared articles published on Business Insider and TechCrunch. Here’s an excerpt of what Business Insider wrote about the startup:

“The self-driving car company will join a crowded market filled with heavyweights such as Google, Tesla, and Uber. Voyage will focus on creating a fleet of self-driving taxis using retrofitted mass-production automobiles rather than building and selling its own autonomous car.”

A new self-driving car startup just spun out of Udacity to challenge Uber with its own autonomous taxi service

Six months ago, online education startup Udacity set out to train a new legion of self-driving car engineers.

The school for robo-cars has been so successful that it's now spinning out of Udacity into its own company, Voyage.

The self-driving car company will join a crowded market filled with heavyweights such as Google, Tesla, and Uber. Voyage will focus on creating a fleet of self-driving taxis using retrofitted mass-production automobiles rather than building and selling its own autonomous car.

And it's doing more than just creating a car that can drive itself — Voyage wants passengers to control the whole experience.

THE FUTURE OF DRIVERLESS CARS IS A BUS

There are two types of driverless cars on the way. First, there's what most people imagine: the car already in your driveway (or the one you can't afford or don't want to own) with tech-enabled super powers to take over the wheel on the highway, when you're stuck in traffic, or when you're drunk.

The second type is an autonomous pod, a slow moving minibus that looks more like an airport shuttle than a car. And it's not only how most of us will get our first autonomous ride, but it's way more useful, too.

Both types are already on the road in London. If you happen to swing by the borough of Greenwich, such pods are currently pootling the pavements as part of a partnership between government, industry, and academia called theGateway Project.

2018 Mercedes S-Class Gets Closer To Fully Autonomous Driving

When computers, cameras, and sensors work together to become the chauffeur.

Mercedes will soon take the wraps off its revised S-Class flagship set to become the brand’s most technologically advanced car with an upgraded array of safety and assistance systems. The company with the three-pointed star logo says its updated range topper represents an important step in the automaker’s road to fully autonomous driving. With so many hardware and software aids implemented, the 2018 S-Class’ computers will take control of the car in more situations than ever.

Active Lane Change Assist

At speeds from 80 to 180 kph (50 to 112 mph), the driver will be assisted whenever changing lanes on a multi-lane road. The person behind the wheel will only have to nudge the indicator stalk and then — within 10 seconds — all of the onboard sensors will check whether it’s safe to perform the maneuver by also taking into account the speed of other nearby cars. If the computers detect it’s safe to change lanes, the driver is going to be assisted throughout the process.

Active Lane Keeping Assist

The steering wheel begins to pulsate at speeds between 60 and 200 kph (37 and 124 mph) after the sensors detect the S-Class is unintentionally exiting the lane. The system actually does more than that as it can steer the car back in the lane and apply the brakes after going over a continuous line. In the case of a broken line, it will do the same only when it’s going to detect the risk of a collision with the car from the other lane.

This is mixing together a couple of niches here, but with all of the emoji domain banter, I looked into various Self-Driving type .ws domains today (robot head plus car, robot head plus taxi, etc..).

All registered already... You guys are quick on the draw!

You saved yourself money. Stick with com, and quality word names, IMO.

Ha, you're probably right @RevolutionaryDomains !! It was more of a lark than anything. It is tough to get creative enough to find new domains to register in this category.

A friend works for a company that manufactures materials for car makers. She says her company has been meeting with big auto companies recently about their 3-5 year plans so that they can start to build the materials needed for the custom fixtures and parts that these self-driving cars will use. Not only mechanical parts, but lots of interior adjustments to these cars as well. Her company is building an entire team just to service the materials for the self-driving car rollouts coming down the pike!

Selfdriving niche has many companies, old and new, jumping in to various areas of the industry, despite wide scale adoption being several years away. How that will translate to the need for domain names is anyone's guess, but in some aspects, the need and desire should eventually be there.

Plenty of better names you can come up, even on the handreg level, though your best bet is the aftermarket. Read this thread and you'll see who to contact for the best names. Sean probably has the best port in this niche. You and your friend might want to reach out to him, among others, if you're looking for quality names. Additionally, you can start a 'wanted thread' for names in this niche.

Welcome to the thread.

@Joseph CA, a couple quick observations... First off, be careful posting names for sale in this thread - Mods will pull the post! Secondly, "Accessories" and "Accessory" are spelled incorrectly if I'm not mistaken (two "S")... Finally, I'd advise you be careful regging names with hyphens, like "Self-DrivingCar"... I can tell you from long experience they are VERY difficult to sell... ;)
