Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The big question is just how long that moment lasts.

Thanks all, fair feedback on the delisting process. Premium delisting is now self-serve, no chat needed.

Dashboard → /dashboard/domains/premium-delist shows every scheduled delisting, including ones set up through support chat, with the date each takes effect and an Export CSV so you can track them.

In your domains list, every name scheduled for delisting shows a "Delisting in N days" badge. Click it to see that request and all your others.

You can also downgrade instead of delist: when the 30 days are up, names can move to Plus or Standard, or come off the marketplace. You can change that choice or cancel any time before the date, for a whole batch or name by name. You'll get a recap email for your records when you submit, and a reminder a few days before it takes effect.

Why 30 days: buyers often take several weeks from first finding a name to buying it, and we invest in marketing every Premium name. The notice gives buyers already considering your name time to act, and gives the name time to drop out of our retargeting ads and partner feeds. If a buyer reaches out to you directly in the meantime, you can close the sale through AtomPay for 4.5%.

@Atom.com is delisting more than 10% of your premium portfolio in a short period of time still frowned on? Hopefully not, but if so, maybe an indication of how close you are to the limit would be useful in this section too.

If true, that's a silly line in the sand. The majority of the Premiums I delist are because I'm dropping them. Are we supposed to keep them so we don't run afoul of an an arbitrary 10% delisting line?

"It may sound strange to compliment a delisting feature, but Atom has implemented it very well. The process was smooth and left me with a great impression. Would recommend. Thank you, Atom!!!"

It's hard to find now especially because it was scattered across multiple different articles, but in the old documentation I remember reading that domains you let expire are treated differently and wouldn't count towards the 10%. It was also handled slightly differently when you contacted support as they would ask you the expiry dates for each domain.

So maybe @Atom.com if the 10% rule still applies then this new page should allow the user to distinguish between names they are delisting and names they plan to let expire. Ofc if the 10% rule no longer applies then none of this matters.

@Atom.com Please make sure that when a Premium domain is delisted and downgraded to Standard/Plus, its previous Premium URL keeps working, either directly or through an HTTP redirect. Visitors should never land on a "Domain Not Found" error page.

Added: same for all other settings like descriptions, logo, categories, BIN, LTO, etc. etc.

Can you share why chose that route over Standard?
Thanks for the AMA. I can tell you exactly why. It was mainly the promise of more exposure from our friends at Squadhelp. I can't say for sure it moved the needle, though. I think the early Squadhelp sellers from years ago got the best visibility, and it's much harder these days.

Is the gamble worth the extra few percent?

FYI, it's an easier process to go from Plus to Standard, than Premium downward. ;)

Let me be very clear. The ideal domain marketplace would be assembled the way a master builder assembles a great house: taking the sturdiest foundation from one platform, the most generous windows from another, and the finest joinery from a third, until every strength that now lives apart is gathered under a single roof, and every weakness is left behind in the rubble of the old designs.

@Atom.com In the FAQ section of the WLM, it says that buyers can make an offer on all names. But I only have BIN enabled. Would it be possible to change this to "some names" or something similar?

Also, maybe the FAQ could be updated to reflect that some names now offer rental plans? Thank you.

Plus gets you retargeting ads and access to their brokers. Whether these two things matter to you for the add'l 7.5% is on a seller by seller basis.

Standard gets almost no platform visibility. As such, it's landers only (no marketplace assistance). If you're going to be landers only your options open up dramatically. GoDaddy, Spaceship, Sedo, Dynadot, and custom/private like NamePros.
