Hiya,

I wondered if I could have any constructively critical comments about the design I have almost completed (minus some info on the about page and more pictures that the client is contributing).

Exeter Astronomical Society

The brief was for a simple but clean design which conveyed contact, events and general information about the society, as well as appealing to new members.

I am well aware the link to my design company will not work, I am in the process of designing my own site (and setting up the buisness), and just changed the name servers. In particular I would like to know how the site fares on macs - safari and netscape as I have already tested on IE and Moz firefox.

This is a site for a friend - and exeter astronomical society, but I hope it will be a good example for my portfolio of a simple, but well designed site for a low budget non-profit organisation.

For examples of what has been done on other local astronomy sites have a look at the second set of links on the links page.

Edit: It would help if I put in the link - :red:

Was it something I said? :red:

This my first website for an organisation (instead of just for myself or a mate) I would really appreciate finding out if I'm going in the right direction. The client was happy with it though - lol.

I like "heavy-graphic" sites, but if your client wanted a clean and simple website- this does the job. In my opinion, an orange header appears to be odd when the website's theme is black and white. Finally, rather than asking people to send you an email in order to join the mailing list, why not setup a mailing list on the website yourself to save them some time? It's simple and loads fast, I guess that's pretty much all that matters. :)

Thanks very much for the feedback. :D

I guess it does look a little odd to have the header graphic orange whilst the rest of the site is devoid of colour. I quite like it, and the client loves it though, and hopefully once he provides a few colour photographs of the club, members and telescopes, it will look less out of place.

There is a mailing list set up, and the email automatically adds the visitor to it, all they have to do is click the email link and then click send (the instructions are really for those that use public computers or who don't have a browser integrated mail client). However I do see what you mean, perhaps a form box where they submit their email address would be better? I'm not sure how to set it up though :red:

maybe you should set the topmarge to 0
will place the header to the top.
and think your nav. bar needs some work, it's just the same background with text links now, maybe add some buttons on it.
and last; add a border or anything at the sides, makes everything more flow with each other.

good luck:tu:
