Just wondering, as a - likely - computer geek/nerd/techie, business freak do you get made fun of?

I know I do. Today I got kicked out of German class -_-

I tell people I make $80/hr programming and they want proof. Well how do I prove that??

Anyway, you can see what kind of trouble comes with the territory of being a programmer.

How's your social life?

I'm known for being a "business freak", as compuXP mentioned in his original post. I don't have problems with being made fun of because of it, but I just remember who will be laughing 15 years from now. :)

Just be proud of what you are.
And dont react to them.
They'll eventually get bored....
From 5 years of experience, I've learned that harrassment doesn't go away by ignoring it.

Was just speaking from personal experience.

Maybe it's from the fact, as you said, you value money more than having a social life...

Personally, I'd give up everything I had to keep my friends etc.
Thats how much they mean to me.

I used to get bullied in previous years but I was quite insecure and not very confident. However, this year (Year 11) I've kind of, come out of my shell a bit and have quite a wide circle of friends, but I can talk to anyone in the school and have a conversation, there's not really anyone who I hate and no-one that really hates me. I've also found myself getting a wider circle of friends of the female variety :p

Never really been bullied for what I do before though, people know, they're just not really that bothered - in fact, most people congratulate me on it and they've seen my work and say that they like it a lot - my graphics teacher thought it would be fun to take my Graphics work around all the other classes and she asked me to show her logos that I've done  - everyone told me after the lesson though that I do good work and they like it so it's all good :)

Well most chavs really are scum, but i do actually know a fair few that are bloody decent people, more decent than my actual friends but i know they wouldn't hang with me.

I have learnt to balance out my social and computing life so it is working out well for me at the moment :)

Girlfriend comming over on friday for some quality time :)

I don't plan on much really it is going to be 3 weeks on saturday i am in no rush to mess up anything.

A simple night of lee evans dvd, pizza and lots of cuddles.

Cuddles with people make everything seem ok, and it's just nice to cuddle, ya know?

(yeah im a soppy one!)

I had a girlfriend for like a week but because I can't actually go on dates until I'm 16, she lost interest. I still talk to her and all but hardly as much anymore... very rarely in fact.

I don't see why you need to date somebody in order to be "going out" with them.

Anyway I'm trying to repair my social life a bit, not saying I'm not anti-social anymore, I still am, but I don't want it to be a catastrophe like it is now.

By the way, tomorrow I'm going to ask a girl for her phone number tomorrow. :td: Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it... when I got a girlfriend for that short week it was the biggest news in school - and it spread in about the first 2 hours of the school day. I really don't think I'll have any luck w/ this one, but it's worth a try? Or would I just make a fool of myself?

I go a school where the population is predominantly from the ghetto, so yeah, I get quite a bit of teasing. A lot of them just don't like "my kind". Most of it is all light-hearted stuff, but people will seriously try to really get me mad every once in a while. I don't really care anymore, though. They give up after a short while.

Not really. Im sure some people make a crack or two whenever I mention something about computers or games I play.

Notice..

"Going Out" = Going Out :D

You can't be in a relationship where you aren't physically together IMO.

I'm lucky really, my college has a very relaxed atmosphere - people dont really judge each other based on their academic ability or whatever. I'm known for my computing ability but not in a bad sense...Most importantly i'm very athletic, i'm a weight lifter and could probably bounce them across the room if provoked...:)

If you're taking abuse over it, let me give you some cynical advice. Make more friends. I dont mean more loser friends in the same situation as you. I mean people that are around, present or at least nearby when you experience insults (i'm mostly talking about lessons here, or something). Having just one person on your side can make all the difference.

"Everybody at my school are those people addicted to myspace, going to the mall, hanging out with friends, and beating up on nerds..."

That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. If everybody beated nerds, then there would be no nerds to beat in the first place.
