Are you investing in Space Travel / Space Tourism domains?

It seems like we are getting closer and closer to private space travel being a reality, with people like Richard Branson and Sergey Brin leading the way.

Has anybody been investing in space domains?

I only have spacetrip.info so far, but curious to see what everyone else has and if anyone has any plans yet (or received any crazy offers!).

I have MarsBase.com

Hopefully a space station will be built on Mars soon.... then I guess it will be a hot domain :):]

Another potential "theme domain" cash-bonfire, as we've seen with the lowest level of idiots in domaining and their moronic involvement with "future trends"?

As with the rest:
This probably has a tiny handful of names that are commercially viable. SpaceTravel.com, SpaceTourism.com, SpaceFlights.com, etc and all of these will have been taken before any of these chimps even thought of involving themselves in the niche.
Perhaps another 50 names that are marginally viable.

Then, there's the 30,000 domains that the retards will hand register that stand precisely 0% chance of ever turning a profit, but since there's always another tomorrow, there's hope for their FUTURE TREND domains! They're able to hold out this hope for a renewal cycle, until that one month when they registered all the 3d domains, a year from now, doesn't leave them with enough money to pay rent... Then, they get real on "3dSpaceTravel.org".

Cue Chattering Monkey sound effect.

You should chill out with using the "r-word" in that context, but I don't disagree with most of what you've said.

I got spacetrip.info because it was expiring...i checked Sedo to see if a domainer had it and what it was listed at... and I notied that there had been two offers made. So, i suppose there is some interest out there.

Tickets are going to be $200,000 per flight as per: http://www.virgingalactic.com/booking/

So, again, while I agree with most of what you are saying, it is short sighted to think that this isn't a place for investors to look.

Maybe, but Sergey Brin (of paypal, tesla and spacex fame) and Larry Page (of Google fame) are putting everything they've got into solving how we get to Mars.

The fact that the private sector is leading the charge and the inefficient governments are getting out of the way bodes will for the future.

Sergey Brin & Larry Page founded Google.

Isn't Larry Page et al. trying to figure out how to mine asteroids and sell the exotic minerals, not fly Clark Griswold's family to Mars

Virgin got to be more edge of stratosphere jet plane fight.

I do believe Mars exploration will come sooner than later than we think.

yes, it's a long term investment, not for a quick flip :) I am happy to wait another 30 yrs and sell it to a private aerospace company or NASA at that time :) ... or maybe the Chinese ^^

I want to say - :sold:.. to someone else... over here when you say "sold" you just bought something, like on the options market!!!

And absolutely nobody would ever be interested in buying a screen-printed T-Shirt incorporating the phrase "Rocket Your World" accompanied by a full color illustration of a vehicle whose hydrogen fueled engine gets lit as this tourist occupied spacecraft pushes more than 200,000 horses at Mach 3 accelerating away from the mother ship on its way to suborbital insertion.

No doubt, that will be a waste of $16 over two years for sure. Damn, for $16, I could have "invested" in four or five Starbuck's gourmet coffees. You "invest" in Starbucks beverages, don't cha?

What the hell was I thinking?

You weren't.
Matter of fact, pursuant to the line of reason you employed to rationalize your shitty decision making, whether or not you're even capable of 'thinking' at all is still up in the air.

Either way, at least with the four Starbucks, you would've been guaranteed a positive outcome, albeit a small one. Flusing $16 down the toilet hoping it navigates the sewers and arrives at a point where it germinates into your personal money tree is not a very good 'chance'

The problem is that most people use this argument incorrectly. They say "I bought a domain but it's only the same amount that I waste on a coffee." Which is true but is only meaningful if you sacrifice one of your normal coffees. Problem is that most people waste it IN ADDITION to the coffee.

I don't mind investing in domains because it's so much less than my rent and leasing online real estate is just like renting real estate, right?

The bigger problem is that some people do it with food, utility bills, or mortgage payments....

If you can afford to waste $16 dollars then it doesn't really matter what you waste it on.
If you can't afford to waste $16 dollars then it doesn't really matter what you waste it on either - you just can't afford it and should think more.

How did my question about "investing" turn into a condescending conversation about people hand registering bad names.

Guys, don't hand register bad names.

Ok, moving on...

I guess nobody is investing in space names. I'll bump this thread in 2013.

(EDIT: Well, SOMEBODY is investing because i see spacesuits.com went for $18k on godaddy this year).

I guess it's because this thread looks like the other threads ร  la 3D fueled by domainer frenzy.
Very few names are viable and they are all long taken.

Take marsbase for example. It's a nice domain but how many possible end users for this one, even in 30 years ?
There is very little room for speculation imo. It's a very tiny market, actually the market hardly exists presently.

I think "Mars Base" is a good title for a future film :)
