Was searching for the domaining dictionary thread. No matter what I put into the NP search bar, ie.:

    domaining dictionary
    the domaining dictionary
    Domaining Dictionary
    The Domaining Dictionay
    DOMAINING DICTIONARY

the thread never came up in the results. This is the thread:
    https://www.namepros.com/threads/the-domaining-dictionary.744093/

Tried ticking the "search titles box" as well, to no avail.

Luckily, I have the thread bookmarked under my NP favorites, so found it that way. But wondering why so difficult to find, particularly when I'm putting in exact title wording too.

Never works properly for me. I can search for words in titles of popular threads and they dont come up. Something is broken.

Might just be due for a reindex. I'll start one shortly.

It's definitely showing up now; it's just not prioritizing it the way it should. We're working on a decent solution for this, but it's pretty difficult to properly tokenize and analyze posts in a manner that will work well with a variety of search styles.

Currently, we're mostly optimized for domain name searches, but even that has some issues. We're using a third-party analyzer that is, frankly, garbage, but it works better with domains than the ones built into our forum software. We've written our own that's a lot better, but we still need to optimize it for non-domain searches before we put it live.

I should note that the current analyzer is case insensitive--casing makes no difference. This will remain the case even with the new analyzer.

Most small search engines exclude common words like "the" (called "stopwords"), but we don't use any stopwords at the moment so that people can search for terms such as "the.com". This has caused some performance issues, so we may expand the list of stopwords in the near future.

Here is a work-around solution that will help you easily find that thread and most other NamePros threads with little effort:

    We hope that helps.

Personally, 100% of the time I search for past threads and not for domains.. with little success I might say as the posts/threads I'm looking for are lost amidst a sea of other results within dozens of pages.

What would help a little -and I'm talking only for myself here- would be:
instead of the default 'relevant' results sort method, to have the option to set the default sort method switch to 'newest' results.

What I usually need is to quickly find a thread I was reading just a few hours ago (and forgot to mark in my watchlist) or find the newest posts on a certain keyword term

ie. it's *always* 'newest' vs 'relevant' and having to switch to 'advanced search' and setup a new search everytime I need something searched makes me prefer doing the search in Google instead.

Figured it would be optimized for dn searches, but thanks for working on this. Just an fyi, the thread still not displaying anywhere at all within (NP) search results, for me anyways.

As an aside, does the topic "tagging" system help with prioritizing/cataloging threads? Noticed, for example, the thread author of that particular thread gave odd tags like "4" 6" "8", so not sure if this is somehow preventing the thread from properly showing up..

I think there are just so many results that it doesn't show up in a standard search. If you only search the forum in which it was posted, you'll see it in the results.
