Are pages on Xanga, LiveJournal, Tumblr useless for SE result ranking?

I just started pages on these three sites about 9 months ago and it just does not seem to be paying off. I create original and meaningful content that links to my websites, but not only does it not drive traffic directly, it also does not seem to boost any of the sites in the SE results at Google or elsewhere.

From others' experience, do these pages with links back to sites eventually pay off?

Thanks!

The sites your pages are hosted on don't impact the ranking of these pages in Google. I'm not saying that domain authority doesn't matter, it does, what I'm saying is that pages on these particular sites will receive little or no benefit from being on these domains.

Thus it is not the site, but the quality of content and volume of quality links to your pages that is resulting in this lack of SE success.

I didn't know that Xanga and LiveJournal still had a large userbase.

You might be able to attract visitors to your site using Tumblr, but it seems that these sites do not have a big effect on your Google rating.

You must evaluate what your competition is doing to outrank you. Check backlink profiles using tools like AHREFS, OpenSiteExplorer (SEOmoz) and/or MajesticSEO. You can see useful info even with a free membership.

Perhaps your competitors are outdoing you, either with natural link bait or SEO?

Those links from free blog sites can be helpful, but they also must be quality, relevant sites with their own inbound-backlinks to have any link juice to pass along to your money site. Diversity of inbound links from various IP addresses will help a bit. Remember, relevance and quality are more important than quantity of backlinks.

SERPS are always relative to the competition.

Also, do any of your feeder-type blogs have anything better than PR-0? It may take 1000 links from PR-0 pages to equal one link from a PR-3, in terms of link-juice... But relevance is also important.

Been seeing a few Tumblr images in the image search results and of course been seeing a few "Tumblr" pic on my Facebook which seems to bring human traffic....
