I see quite a few available gems, but the fact that I still haven't seen any real publicity for a .mobi makes me hesitate.

It's possible that I've just been out of the loop; am I wrong?

As with any extension- some are, some aren't.

I think we can all agree that there are a lot of crap .mobi's that've been registered but have very little to no value. But anyone who says that there are not valuable .mobi's is just plain ignorant of the facts (and yes, there are those who say that all .mobi's are worthless).

If by "available" you mean unregistered, I would re-evaluate the meaning of the word "gem". I'm not saying that there are no good registrations left out there... but I don't believe that there are "quite a few". That's why we see a lot of crap domains (not just .mobi, this happens with any extension... fingers should not be pointed at just .mobi) -- people not knowing what is good, and what isn't.

but the fact that I still haven't seen any real publicity for a .mobi makes me hesitate.
I think we would all like to see more of this, but progress IS being made.
Check out this thread for a piece of nice news about Xbox.mobi being promoted:

The market is bad at the moment, but that's not just with .mobi domains. Everything is low lately... take a look at LLL.com's for example. If you're looking for quick flips, then .mobi probably isn't for you (unless you find some real bargains)... .mobi investors who are consistantly pumping money into their investment should realize that it will take time to see much profit (and, who knows... it might not pay off in the end. No one knows.)

I have money invested in .mobi... most would call me a .mobi optimist... but I look at things from both sides of the fence. I see things how they are, not from tinted mobi-glasses. Some people go overboard on the bashing of .mobi, and some people go overboard in their blind support of it. It's good to play somewhere in the middle... and weigh the facts fairly... and be professional. We've seen a great lack of that around here in the last two years....

Posts like the few before mine bring nothing but tension to the .mobi subforum here... why is it so hard to talk about .mobi (without going overboard either way, and by backing up our claims with facts)??? :|

since this is the .mobi section of namepros, chances are everyone would tell you that they're great. I say they suck though.
Not everyone here worships .mobi when they wake up in the morning.... some of us can actually discuss .mobi professionally and without making ridiculous claims (on either side of the fence).

Probably 90% of the dictionary would be crap to reg so simply saying you haven't gotten an offer on your unknown domain doesn't illustrate anything.

I took a look at the link in your signature-- is reconcile dotmobi the domain you are referring to?

If so, I do not think it's fair to base your judgement of an entire extension based on this one domain. In my view, .mobi domains should have a solid mobile application in order to have much value... "reconcile" doesn't meet that criteria in my opinion. Just because a word is in the dictionary doesn't mean it's going to have much value in any other extension either.

The next person that believes that low blow personal attacks are necessary to make yourself heard, i'll hand out the appropriate warning points for conduct, this may include a suspension of your account.

First off, I am a big .mobi "naysayer". I'm not a fan of the extension.

That being said - until the day comes where NOBODY wants to buy a .mobi, if you have a good domain, it absolutely has value! There are people who believe in the extension, and are developing sites like crazy (sites that are FANTASTIC, by the way).

If you get a great name, it is definitely valuable. Crappy names, not so much.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Totally agree GF, the problem comes when separating the wheat from the chaff, and I'd say the vast majority of regs today fall into the latter category...for all extensions, not just mobi.

Then we get people judging the entire extension because they can't unload their pile of crappy domains.
