I remember when .ad was first released, it was not allowed to be sold. Are they available for sale now?

Sure, they can be registered now days, however, if you are going to use it as domain portfolio to resell domains or make it obvious the domain you registered was just for the purpose of reselling it, you may want to rethink it. here's a little information I dug up on it in Jun 2025: https://www.namepros.com/threads/ad-andorra-cctld-country-code-top-level-domain.1354955/

It's important to note the following prohibited use from that article:
Using the .ad domain name for trafficking domain names for sale, resale, or transfer, or allowing or contributing to a third party doing so, is also not permitted.

Exactly! At any time, if the registry does a random audit of registrants, a domain can be reclaimed/seized and the registrant loses registration, renewal and/or acquisition costs/investment with no refunds (If found to be a domain reseller case).

Not worth the risk in my opinion to play with that ball of fire. :)
