Just curious, looking at my spreadsheet of names and see a few .cc names in the mix and wondering if even one word names have value or should i put them in the discount bin at virtual walmart. Any opinions?

I own a few .cc's that I think are good,
but my best and certainly worth the 19.99 is Wendy.cc
since I'll never get the .com - this is priceless!

Not worthless but 500 times less than the .com equivalent.

True, but I'll bet the owner paid less than $100 for the .cc. It's about 10 years to late to find that kind of .com domain for a price most can afford.

If you pick the right keyword, there is some money to be made in the .cc and .ws market.

BTW, ending price was $951 USD with 22 bids.

Tracked that Home.cc, under 1k for a premium word like that makes me think about the value of the extension or that the buyer just made a great decision.

Yandig, I wouldn't mind your opinion on the value on my 1 and only .cc name:

wild .cc

You should develop it. Not park it.

Yes :), 11 is not enough ;). IMO, .cc names that are GOOD keywords will have a slow and steady future as CHINESE end users keep on using .cc names. See: Wretch.cc & on.cc .

Does anyone know why it's popular in China?

Because of some registrar's hype

I think the value in a cc domain name is more value to the person or company in that country. this domain name helps in country searches from say Google. best bet only pick winners and hold on to them they'll be worth something latter maybe. just don't pick a third world country. I heard India is booming you might try to get some good domain for that country. that might be a good in vestment.

That doesn't hold true for the .cc TLD. The entire population of the country is 596 people per the CIA World Factbook. I actually have my doubts as to whether there is even internet service on the islands. The unempoyment rate is estimated at 60%, so if you figure 20% may be kids, there are probably less than 200 employed in the island country. Their only cash crop is coconuts and probably a percentage of .cc registrations. So I guess to them, .cc probably stands for "Cash Crop".

Since the island doesn't have much use for a domain TLD, they've marketed it out as an open ccTLD with no registration restrictions like a gTLD. For the most part, probably only domainers even know its a ccTLD. In a legal sense, it still is, but it doesn't really have much geographic meaning due to the status of the island country. Since it doesn't have any specific meaning like info, net, or biz, it's really kind of a generic TLD only good for keywords. That can be looked at negatively or positively. For branding, it means domains are worth zilch. For SEO keywords, it can have some moderate value.

And sorry to say, coconuts.cc is registered by someone in Japan. I guess the locals couldn't afford the registration.
