.tv APPRASIE -> IowaState (dot) tv State Geo Domain

Well I went ahead and bought even more .tv domains (I need to stop......NOT) and got a few but want to know what you think of this one..

IOWASTATE (dot) TV

Google results on Iowa State are 69,400,000
Yahoo results on Iowa State are 101,000,000

GREAT Geo domain in my opion but that has not been to good lately

What are your views....I purchased a few of these btw (see sig)

IMHO IowaState.tv is not a GEO

Ames.TV is a GEO (we own it). We also own IowaCity.TV for the Hawkeyes

Iowa State is a university and I would worry about TM issues. Same with VirginiaTech.tv, NCState.TV, etc. I wouldn't touch those with a 10 foot pole. IMHO

A VT site I frequent was sued for using the name "Hokie" in their branding. They also could not use "Virginia Tech". Had to drop it down to techsideline.com from hokiecentral.com

Horrible GEO domain name.

To be honest was not even thinking of terms of University..more of a information site with tourist style videos.....

Will keep that in mind however

I registered washingtonstate.tv a while back because its the only one that could statnd on its own without association with the school.

You will probably resell it for $60-$85 to somone who does not care about TM issues.

My intent had NOTHING to due with the schools..In fact how can someone trademark a state name? Anyways I will maybe make these off for quick sale as I did get 5 of them....other then that I will keep them as you never know... touchy subjects are sometimes what someone is looking for in a domain name.

nobody can TM the state name "Iowa" but they can TM the term "Iowa State". I would try to resell quickly for a nice flip. Definitely too many legal issues with the name. Its just not worth it.

You should note that in my previous thread I did state that the .coms are all in operation indepently of the schools as they use .edu

I think this is BS....not the members here but the fact a state name with the word state can be a TM? I could see doing something like Microsoft.tv or mcdonalds.tv but a state name does NOT to me, have the intensions of making it a copy of a school

My intial uses was for tourist information.....PERIOD....sometimes i get so pissed at this business of domaining

Well the OVT score you quote is mostly DUE to the school. If not for the school that score would be much lower.

IMHO IowaState.tv is not a true GEO anymore than AtlantaCity.tv is a GEO.

The reason to buy GEOS is for the city name (a direct hit). Otherwise just reg IowaChannel.tv or IowaCitizens.tv or LoveIowa.TV or IowaVideos.TV would also be GEOs. There a millions of combinations and the value of any one type of combination is very low.

Your best bet is a site with Iowa State Govt Information.
