I had a buddy of mine ask me the other day if there is a set amount a domain is worth just because it has a particular PR. This is a question I did not have a specific answer to. Of course the higher the PR, the better, but what my buddy (and now I) would like to know if there is a minimum amount a domain is worth just because it has a PR.

For example:
PR0 regfee?
PR1 regfee?
...
PR5 $50?
etc.

Thanks for your input.

I don't think there is.

I have a PR4 domain that I recently bought (for the domain not the PR). It has exactly 0 backlinks and has only got 15 views so far this month.
Meaning that my domain is probably worth a lot less than a PR4 with decent links and traffic.
My domain is probably worth just the domain on its own - forget the PR because in this case it doesn't mean anything.

I'll be interested to hear what everyone else says but IMHO PR is one piece of the pie and apparently not a very reliable indicator of anything.

If you factor in all the different things like traffic, quality of the name, Alexa, PR, backlinks etc. etc. then maybe you can set an amount but by that point the domain is unique anyway.

So IMHO it's not possible to put a set value on a PR domain --- well, you probably can but it's not a good idea, particularly seeing as my PR4 will probably be back to PR0 in a few months.

In my opinion PR is worthless per say, however, domain age and quality backlinks are very valuable (which PR is supposed to be a measure of) as they can take a lot of time to acquire. In the end it depends what you want the site for - if it is just for traffic then buy traffic, if it is to build up then buy the name and industry, and if it is for the PR then be very careful :hehe:

However, to answer your question a PR6 site or higher is inherently valuable because a link from a PR6 site appears to get spam sites indexed by Google. For this reason you can always sell links off a PR6 site although how long it takes your site to get banned once you start doing this is another issue :'(

There are a lot of factors that are involved in determining a value of a domain. PR is just one of such factors which also include the name itself, domain extension, traffic stats, Alexa ranking, backlinks, etc.

I appreciate the feedback, but please understand that I know PR is just one aspect to look at. I'm not a newb...

My question was specifically if a particular pagerank means that a domain will be worth a set amount. I've noticed that domains with PR5 and higher usually go for at least $50 at auction.
